Engine Cleaning? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #8618 13 posts Started by ToYCeLi8
Well this winter I am going to park my car in the driveway and work on the 3sgte a little. If i can try to tune it up better. Set the SAFC-II right. But what i really want to do is clean up the engine bay. I have seen a bunch of engines on here VERY CLEAN like new! I want my engine to look just as nice.

What do you guys reccomend i use? CLR? Simple Green? or what? And yes I am going to take the parts OFF and clean them. I heard i can have the engine steam cleaned but i don't know if they can do what i want?

Well any info you guys can give i would appreciate. Thanx

David
I think that you can buy stuff to clean the engine with. Just go to an autoparts store and see if they have cleaning solution for the type of metal your engine is made out of. I'm basing this all off what I've heard, so I could be wrong.
Grease remover works good to clean alot of it. just use a towel to clean it and wash it away
glass bead or sand blast your parts to make them look new, I find cleaners dont do to much on the valve cover and what not.

They make this stuff called engine GUNK. It comes a orange and white spray can and sprays as a foam. It works pretty good. I used simple green on the engine bay paint, that stuff is amazing. As far as parts on the engine, I used sos pads, simple green, and gunk. Some of it is wire brushed, some polished, some glass beaded.
damn i luv the way ur engine looks THATS SWEET!!

Anyway thanx for the info. I've heard the same thing so thats kewl.

Here are some pics of what I'm working with.

after you are done washing it, use tire shine on all the rubber hoses and plastic parts.

just make shure that you dont get anything electrical wet. cover up the altinator and distributor cap. you might also want to have the engine running when you spray water on it.

I say just unplug the battery and spray what you want. let it dry overnight, and be happy
You guys know what? Now that i think about it. What is glass bead? I don't think i have ever heard of it?? >confused.gif>
