im sorry but i dunt know, whats the difference between struts, coilovers, shocks, and springs. and if i was to drop my car what do i need to do and buy thanks
*SUSPENSION noob question* about coilovers springs - 6G Celicas Forums
well on out celi's you have struts... and springs both front and back....
struts are just shock that are inclosed in an asmebly that holds a spring with in my opinion gives better handling..
coilovers are ajustables that let you rasie and lower the car you can't use those with stock springs .. when you buy them, they come with they own springs which are i lot smaller the stock..
springs well these are the things that hold the wieght of the car the shock aid the springs
if you need to know any more just let me or anyone else know you'll find alot of people here know what they are talking about..

In the first picture, the big thing on the left is a strut, it comes on your car from the factory. The red spring on it, is the spring from the coilover set. The coil itself is a threaded cylinder. The spring sits on top of a holder which is threaded. This holder moves up and down the coil by twisting it, easily allowing you to adjust the heigth of your car. You can see these pieces better in the second picture.
If you buy what they call springs, you will get a set of springs which will look very similar to the red springs in the pictures above. They are shorter in heigth than your stock springs which will lower your car and are as strong so you don't bounce everywhere.

also depends on what you are planning on using the car for and how much you want to spend. If it's a daily driver I would go springs. If you want max drop but don't care about ride quality or scraping over every speed bump go coilovers. good coilovers are $400. crappy ones for under $100... real crappy. springs for $125-$200. The "adjustability" of coilivers can also make your tires wear quicker due to the camber being changed when you raise or lower it. Might consider that too.
If i get the sport lines, what type of shocks would u guys recommend??
you could probaly stay on your stock shocks for a very long time. but i recomend gettin kyb agx. konis if you can affod them.

Damn, thanks guys.. I'd been searching around for this stuff a little bit and didn't find anything.. this really helped. Likely going with Eibach Sportlines here, mostly because I don't need anything more than 1.5", and I've heard nothing but good things about them.
How does the lowered ride effect tire sizes? For example, I realize that you probably can't have the car lowered 3" with 19's on.. but would 1.5" with 17's hurt it? Should I lower it after getting say, an Invader kit on, or would that be too low?

I think invader, sportlines, and 17's would be fine. Just be careful on all those speed bumps.
alright you guys im thinking i got the hang of this well i was looking through ebay and i was woundering if these shocks were good to buy?
and lets say i bought those shocks after that i would then go out and buy lowering springs like these?

and i put those to toether and install to my car correct? o yeah and my second option to droping my car would be buying coilovers which is the equvelent to shocks and springs? correct me if im wrong. but am i correct you guys? o and coilovers should be like these correct?

correct me if im wrong thanks

o yeah i forgot wha twere struts>?
well yea kyb's are OEM replacment.. just a little bit better... and the springs would be great from what hear of them..
coilover are just the sliver part... but when you buy them they come with there one springs... so like the springs you might want to get new struts.. depending on what you want to do..
