Ok peeps here's the deal. I just got a 94 Celica installed my 2 12" Pioneer speakers from my old car. Bought a wiring kit for this installation and everything. I connected the 12 volt power cable coming into my 500 w amp to the correct spot on my amp. Got everything working and then headed to town as I'm driving to town I smell the burning of electronics yet nothing is messing up still working fine. So I pull over and check the amp. The gold plated connection where the 12 volt was connected was rusted looking and the plastic around it some what melted. The wire itself had melted the plastic sheath right around the connector as well. Now the 12 volt wire is fused as well as the amp itself. But none of the fuses blew or anything when it did all of this. I have disconnected it for now and was wondering if anybody knew what might have caused this and if so how to fix it. Thanks! >>

Yeah sounds like your gauge is too thin, may need thicker wire.

Never use anything smaller than 8 ga wire. Man, you can catch your car on fire be careful. Also what amp fuse do you have at the battery.

8g Wire or better for any amp. I prefer 4g little harder to route tho.
the 8g about 50c a Foot, and the 4g about 1-1.50$ a foot. I always run a 60amp Fuse. good luck.

What ever the fuse size is at your battery make sure that the ampage is about 5 amps less this will make sure you want have to worry about any damage to your amplifier.

i agree with supersprynt, u need thicker wire.

I have a 300 watt amp and i use 8 gauge power and ground....i wouldnt advise using anything less. Along with checking the wire gauge and fuse amp ratings, double check that you have enough wire fed into the receptors on the amp, and make sure its all tight too.

Not trying to threaten your intellegence, its just that a wire can come loose easily if you dont double or triple check your work.
