Rear Diff Torsen LSD on its way out - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #87656 7 posts Started by Neon90424
My rear diff has a problem, about 2 or 3 helical teeth on one of the diff gears are sheared off and long gone, changed the oil in it and put it back in the car since I don't have a replacement.

Can this Diff be replaced by another one? say like a random supra diff or ford racing diff or what not... Or must I specifically look for a Celica GT four rear torsen diff... and can I find a diff gear to replace the one thats dead?...

How much horsepower can one of these LSD's handle before it goes Kaboom?

I use 225/45/17 hoosier slicks but I am planning on buying 9inch wide wheels and running 245/45/18 slicks?

What I think when you think I care
no ideas at all?

What I think when you think I care
Nothing will just fit, at least without just getting extremely lucky.

The ring gear needs to be exactly the same. I've looked, the only thing i've found with a rear diff that they made the same ring gear ratio was a ford 9" rear, which is a solid axle. If you find something that does have the same ring gear, then yeah could make mounts and swap the pumpkin, but then youll need to make sure it fits with the propshaft, and will also need rear axles. It's what I did with my rx7 rear, but I didnt have to worry about the AWD so the ring gear size didnt matter; so I just used one out of an 03 viper.

Couldn't you just source proper gears and replace the ones are that are broken? From somebody parting out a GT-4, should be doable. Shipping would kill as it'd likely be coming from UK or US, but still...

I didn't know people went as far as parting the diff out into pieces aswell...

What I think when you think I care
I haven't seen it, but maybe other gears are available? ST185 or so...
