just curious - 6G Celicas Forums

im just curious, I've done my brakes several times and recently they started making this loud creaking noise while moving at slow speeds and applying the brakes. After inspecting them I found one of the guide bolt pins was sticking badly. so after replacing them all and putting some fresh anti-seize they've stopped making that noise. well any ways my question is just how often should those guide pins be replaced? Usually i'll use the retainer clips and those V-shaped springs through maybe 2 sets of pads but I've never replaced the pins before now and my Celica is just shy of 250K miles.
Depends upon use, conditions, maintenance and luck.

If you're the type to regularly clean and relubricate the pins and maintain/replace the rubber pin boots, then the bushings/pins can last forever.

They're not conidered wear items with a scheduled replacement period. They fall under the category of inspect regularly, replace as necessary.
Not to burst your bubble but I've hadd bad cases with anti sieze it turns into dust and causes them to stick so I got brake grease from autozone and I havn't had a problem since
Ack, I missed that. Don't use anti-seize on the pins; it's meant to prevent corrosion, not lubricate moving parts. You want to use the same glycol soap-based lubricant on the pins/bushings as you do on the piston.
Only grease where the caliper hits the pad and the slides. Also cheap pads or glazed rotors will creek.

Also those pins, i call them slides, shouldnt have to be replaced as long as there greased good. But yeß they can wear out.
I see, thats good to know, its worth noting that the grease covering them was pretty thick and sticky I had to clean out the hole they slide into a little, but thanks for the replies
