I was wondering what steps should be taken first before swapping out the cams in favor of some web ones. Right now all I have is intake, exhaust, and a centerfoce clutch. This summer I plan on adding a header, most likely custom unless some company gets off their a$$ and gets one done like hotshot performance is claming. Anyway would those mods be enough for a new cam or would I need to do a lot more to the block to get a nice performance gain out of the cams. If I get the cams I plan to get the mild ones so that my idle doesn't go all crazy on me, plus its,of course street driven. So what do you guys think, should I do it or will it be a waste of money?

To maximize the gains... I would suggest a complete rebuild, with porting, polishing, new valves (perhaps slightly larger), springs (higher rates/lift), new retainers (maybe titanium retainers), and perhaps even a 3 angle cut or something. That will maximize the gains, and you can be looking at 20+ hp depending on what sort of cam profile you look to get...

Yeah, its worthwhile if you're going to stay NA. But if you're going to do it I would HIGHLY suggest doing the G head swap. The valve angles are much more favorable for NA power and its a better flowing head all together. There are also a lot more (cheaper?) parts made for that head. Toyota Atlantic engines with that head make 240hp NA. They also have built bottom ends and turn about 10k (but only 1.6l), but that gives you an idea how far you could take it if you wanted to.
