Topic #88197 15 posts Started by blackliftback
I have 3rd gen 3sgte engine.

New parts that i want to install are

Headgasket
Waterpump
Timing belt
Idle and tensioner pulleys
Maybe even piston rings

Will the st185 parts work for this?

No they wont, they are different. Maybe the timingbelt is the same and maybe the pistonrings but the rest certainly not

You can use a Gen2 water pump in the gen3 housing, timing belts are the same, rings are the same. pulleys are different, and head gasket is different.

sheesh guys, you need to read the sticky's more often! :-)

Why do you want to change the piston rings and headgasket?

Thanks for the info.

Im going to replace these parts before i drop in the swap.

Now can you guys help me on where i can purchase these parts brand new? And not via ebay.
Could i go to the local toyota dealership and order thru them from toyota japan? With parts number of course.

Easier to do it while its out of my car. And since i will do the headgasket... might as well change out the piston rings while the head is off.

I am going to change out these parts so i wont have to worry about a headgasket leak or timing belt going bad.
I know i wont be able to resist having a heavy foot after the swap ;P

I plan for autoX btw.
You do realize that changing the pistonrings involves the complete piston needs to be taken out?
I really dont see the need for this unless you want to do a complete overhaul of the entire block like new pistons, reboring the cylinders, new bearings etc.

If you cant order the parts you need in the US, I can order them for you and ship things over if you'd like.

I know the pistons come out and the block gets honed. New main bearings... ect. If the pistons have no damage then i will just clean them up.

I remember there was a part number list but i cant seem to find it when i need it lol. I will talk to toyota dealer first. If they cant get it then i will pm you sir. Thank you for the help

Are you sure the timing belts are the same? I don't believe so. Maybe I'm thinking the valve cover gaskets are different. Could be both.
ebay.co.uk has the 3rd gen HG kit...

Timing belt is different than the ST185. I think it was a tooth or two off.
