FS: S54 Curren Trany - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #8845 38 posts Started by DustyBurns30
this is an S54 2wd trany that will bolt right up to the 3s-gte. i have with it axles, wheel hubs, shift fork, clutch, and flywheel. i bought it from scotthaniel for $400 plus shipping so that's what I will let it go for. i'm selling cause i'm having second thoughts about doing my own 3s swap. scott has insured me that the trany is in very good condition and is said to have around 40,000 miles on it, the clutch has only a small amout of wear on it. the dust plates for the brakes however are bent to hell and gone, but i believe you could use the dust covers on your car now.

thanks.

for the lazy readers: IT'S $400!!! >wink.gif> (gotta look out for my peeps).
hmm.....$400

I want it

But shipping would be a pain since I am in California.

If you are interested in shipping to cali give me a PM.
I respect the first dibs, but I want seconds if Jabber doesnt want it.
Jabber PAY FOR YOUR WING OR SPLIITERS!

what shifter cable would you be able to use with that tranny?

would the gt cables be fine?
yes, the gt shift linkage will work. another advantage to this trany is you don't have to swap bell housings to mate it up with the 3s-gte.
Question, which axles? Hybrid Mr2/Alltrac?

I cant afford it! But i want it!

How bout i'll give you a door panel, damaged Vis Front, damaged wing, AND a hearty handshake, and we'll call it even.

i will surely take this thing off your hands in a few weeks if it's still available. $400 is an awesome deal.
what type of clutch can be used with this transmission? also what is estimated amount of HP this thing can hold.. I really need a trans for my 3s cuz the other 4 I have im not gonna use. I am interested in getting this but I don't wanna buy it if it wont hook up or hold at least 450HP.

Let me know

99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
Pretty sure you'll jsut use the 3sgte clutch.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
actually you have to use a 3s-ge clutch and flywheel, this trany came off a car that stock handles 170 hp. so i think it can handle what ever you can through at it. a manual tranny is nothing more than a gear box so it isn't as easily stressed as an automatic.

let me know if you have any other questions.

thanks
I'm not sure if i agree with you. The 3sge and 3sgte are extremely similar, I'm not 100% positive but the clutch's are probalby very similar as well, and your not going to find a 3sge clutch around here. I'm going still say that the 3sgte clutch will work.

well, the 3s-ge clutch is the one to use. you can get a clutch masters, act, or stock replacement. the clutch setup for the curren tranny is the same as for the 89' celica gts which holds the 3s-gelu (i think thats the engine code). the guy i bought the tranny from, scotthaniel, is the one that told me to use the 3s-ge clutch and he knows his stuff. i will try to email him and get him to come here and verify what i'm saying, he would probably be the one to talk to about specs between the two cause i have never seen the 3s-gte engine or tranny in person.

edit: i checked and the usdm engine code is 3s-gelc.

i posted some pics of the tranny in my profile, i painted it hi-temp ford red. i have used the hi-temp paint on my current engine block and various other parts and it holds up really well.

thanks
the s54 tranny is the same tranny used in the USDM Celica's... just cause it came from a curren dosnt mean its special.

the GT and GTS models. All im saying the tranny is no stronger then the GT tranny. So super its the same thing you have already that your freaked about going out.
actually its a hell of a lot stronger than the 5s-fe trany, what are you trying to do to me here? >confused.gif>
its actually not... its the same tranny
It is nearly the same as the S54 found in the US - but with a few differences:

It has the same gears, input and output shaft as the US model, but the differential gear is different - giving the trans a higher final gear ratio. Since the US market likes the feel of torque, we got the lower gear ratio. The rest of the world gets more top end speed instead.

The drive shafts are also stronger.

There are some other differences, just by the different part numbers in each trans, but I haven't figured them all out yet (just got a copy of the EPC recently).

I was wrong about the clutch too - its part number is 31250-20250. Its only found on the SXV10 Camry (1995) in the US.

The Clutch cover is part number 31210-32130 and is found on tons of cars.

The Flywheel - 13405-74070 is only found on the 3SGE motor (which has the same crank as the 3SGTE motors)

The trans is a good match for turbo cars, since the higher gear ratio will allow you to actually use the gears (1st gear in the US trans is worthless), and run lower RPM on the highway in 5th gear. The gears are not quite as strong as the MR2 gears, but they can still take a lot of abuse (350+ hp).

I guess I stand corrected. you have the gear ratio's at all? and why would they make a tranny with different ratio's and the same tranny code?
From http://www.megaboost.co.uk/mr2/frames/techinfopage.htm

USDM - 4.176 final gear ratio
JDM - 3.944 final gear ratio

Also check out the max speed per gear:

_______ US _________________________________ JDM____________
5th gear (Rev Limiter): 126mph_______ 5th gear (6500 RPM): 142mph
4th gear (6300 RPM): 100.5 __________ 4th gear (7000 RPM): 122mph
3rd gear (6300 RPM): 78.1 ___________ 3rd gear (7000 RPM): 98mph
2nd gear (6300 RPM): 52.7 ___________ 2nd gear (7000 RPM): 67mph
1st gear (6300 RPM): 31.4 ___________ 1st gear (7000 RPM): 40mph

Though the 3SGE has a higher rev-limit, even if you pushed the 5S to 7000 RPM it still wouldn't reach the same speeds.
