Engine rev without hitting pedal - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #89454 6 posts Started by gts4
Just recently had a new distributor put in. I also had a new engine put into my celica in 2012 (st204). I had the engine rev to 3500 rpm in a parking lot and it got stuck there. It came down a bit when I revved higher in order to try and stop it (with the clutch depressed of course). It kept up between 2000 - 3500 rpm until I parked it and shut it off. Hasn't had that problem since, in the last two weeks. Is this something diagnosable? Is it something I should be worried about?
first check to make sure the foot carpet isnt getting stuck in front of the pedal.
then rev the engine using the throttle cable line o make sure it isnt a sticky throttle cable line

U also could have sucked something in ur throttle body if u have an intake
sounds like a vacuum leak that fixes itself. like a hose is cracked

I'm pretty sure the throttle cable is sticking or the throttle itself is somehow getting stuck open. Nothing io serious.

a stuck throttle cable is very serious! you need to look under the hood to confirm that the throttle plate is closing while its revving like that
