Idk what e153 you have been looking at, but there all gear drivin. Some are electronic speedo and some are cable this one is clearly cable.

I think u need toread my post. One sentence one question, not related. Looks more like a s54 most jdm e153 are from mr2turbo hence shifter brackets. These ones are pointing rear. Oh and it looks like a gear driven speedo .... Lol... If its a Caldina e153. Does not appear to. Be one. I'd like to see the 5th gear cover and the oil coolant lines

I read it as you were useing the fact that it had a gear driven speedo the reason why it's couldn't be an e-153. I don't think it's a e-153 tranny myself. Could possibly be s54 tranny with an aftermarket diff. If it was a caldina tranny it would have a stamped metal 5th gear cover and a bolt on shifter cable bracket.

It is definitely an S-series trans (S51 / S54). Not the factory LSD either. There is a small chance that it is an aftermarket LSD. It would be good to know what car it came out of and the history of the trans. It was obviously in an older car (say, pre '94 Celica or pre '92 Camry or something) due to the cable speedo drive.-Charlie
