>this topic has been kinda covered. the 5s (2.2L) block has been paired with the gte head (from the 3sgte) before. the 2.2L block gives the setup more torque with the larger displacement. "ge" heads are toyotas answer to performance ie- 2jz-gte, 1jzgte, 7mgte, 3sgte. the "fe" heads such as 5sfe, 7afe, 2gr-fe are more plain jane setups. do some reseach in the sticky sections of each of the forums. its good info!
I know they're been 5sge fron 3sge heads but I'm talking about the ge heads from the 4age.

Long answer is most Toyota engines can only share some of the components between each other as long as they're from the same family of engines. Think of it as sharing your car with your brother, vs sharing it with a complete and total stranger.
So for example, 3S-GE, 3S-GTE, and 5S-FE can share some of their components between each other.
4A-FE, 4A-GE, 4A-GZE, 7A-FE can share some of their components between each other too.
Most people with an economy (FE at the end instead of GE) engine mostly swap high performance GE heads into their otherwise economy engine. Two examples are the 7A-GE and the 5S-GE(most of the time for turbo)
Another example of possible sharing is that you can interchange camshafts between a 3S-FE and a 5S-FE, and you can interchange cams from some generations of 3S-GE into 3S-GTE heads (some cases this is an upgrade because the naturally aspirated engine uses more aggressive cams to ramp up output power vs the GTE using the turbo to do so)
So the ge heads from the 3sge and 20v 4age isn't interchangeable? Which concludes that the ge head from the 20v 4age isn't interchangeable with the 5sfe since the 20v ge head isn't interchangeable with the 3sge? Lol. I never gutted out or went inside an engine before so I don't know anything about engines but the basic stuff like engine accessories.
