96 tranny on 94 - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #90391 5 posts Started by Bongboy024
Ok so i did a motor swap on my 1994 celica GT because the motor was shot. When we pulled the motor out i found out the tranny on the motor was a 96 tranny and im thinking the owner before me just put a 96 motor and all in it because when we put the 94 5sfe in the flywheel cover would not fit because the oil pan is blocking it so my flywheel is 50% exposed and we have no idea what to do. Would i be able to get the 94 5fse flywheel cover and would it fit on my 96 tranny? Or will i have to get a 94 tranny to make it fit? What ive heard is that after 94 the tranny changed so im really confused on what to do. Someone please help me!
well first of all is it automatic or manual? secondly transmissions stayed roughly the same as long as the car is a GT then its a S54 transmission for the manual or A140E for the automatic regardless of the years, im not sure of the year-to-year changes toyota did to the tranny's but I do know that an engine from a camry is larger because of the balance shafts so that could explain the oil pan issue your having
im having a hard time understanding what you did.

like mentioned if its a 5 speed, the trans is the same all years

That little metal cover can be a b!tch to get back on because the fitment is so tight. I believe you have to put the back side on first, because there is a stud sticking out, and then put it on the front. Usually you can use a mallet to get it on.

Its a manual. Ok thanks you guys im going to go get a maulet and try to bang that b!tch on. But i pulled the motor out of a celica so i know its the same excact motor it had before so i doubt its a camery version or anything. I just think im not trying hard enough haha
