Ebay kyb struts? - 6G Celicas Forums

So I'm looking into getting new suspension and just wondering if these kyb struts from ebay would be any good? Are they legit kyb? And would I need anything else if I got these or is this everything I need?

From the ebay post. "GENERIC PICTURE, ACTUAL SHOCKS AND SPRINGS LOOK DIFFERENT."

I'd just buy from amazon.ca or somewhere reputable.

Same seller, but that's an actual picture in the listing. Ehh, other options would be Rock Auto or Amazon. The thing with Amazon though if it's not from Amazon themselves, it's just some random person. Same as eBay in that regard, but with less protection.

Any suggestions on struts for a smoother / softer ride? My ride right now is ridiculously stiff and it bothers me especially considering the roads here are awful. Are there any pros of softer struts vs stiff struts or vice versa?

If you're on stock springs just get some Monroe struts if you want an OEM ride.

+1, if you're looking at an oem feeling. Go with Monroe. If your car is on lowering springs I'd stick with stiffer struts just so you won't bottom or anything in that nature.

I think my struts are blown, I can feel every single bump in the road lol. They've been like that since I've had the car. So Monroe struts offer a softer ride? I don't have plans to lower the car because ****ty roads haha so I'm just looking for a comfy ride

Then Monroe is the way to go then. Another thing to look at is your tire pressure, if they're set to too high a pressure it'll cause a harsh ride.

Sounds like your springs are too stiff. Blown struts actually make the ride very soft and bouncy. If you have lowering springs at all, then that is your issue, if you still have stock springs then as someone mentioned check your tire pressure.

Monroe struts are OE replacements, kyb GR2/Excel-G (same strut, they just changed the name) are supposedly ~10% stiffer than stock. Based on what I've seen though, monroe struts never seem to last more than about 50k miles, the kyb are much higher quality IMO.

I don't have lowering springs, and as far as I know the springs are stock. Is there perhaps something wrong with the springs? And if so what would be good replacement springs without lowering it?

What size wheels and tires are you on? That will affect ride quality as well.

205/55/16, was on 205/50/15 before and haven't noticed much of a difference

When you go over dips or bumps at higher speeds on the freeway, does you car seem to continue bouncing more than just the once?

Doesn't seem like it. Just one really stiff bounce that I can feel and hear throughout the car

Well, if you're on stock springs, your struts aren't blown, your tires are stock-ish size, you're tire pressure isn't too high, and you have no other aftermarket suspension components then the only other possible thing I could see it being is your alignment.

Either that or you're used to riding in a mercedes/bmw/cadillac and aren't used to the fact that "sporty" cars like this just ride a little rougher tongue.gif

That or the bushings in the suspension are worn out. Possibly the strut mounts as well.
