Hi everyone i have a 97 GT i love it and bought it as a project car. anyway the car revs free when its in neutral and dies on occasion. engine is a bit jumpy when you put your foot down or take it off. just wondring if anyone else has this problem.

lol, yeah if you want a real answer your gonna have to ask a real question. Give some specifics. What does "rev free" mean? does it mean it runs great while just idling in neutral? Jumpy? All the time while accelerating or just if you mash the gas pedal to the floor?

Definitely needs a new engine, I think maybe you might even need a replacement passenger side door too.

dunno what else to say man when i slow down to come to a set of lights it sometimes turns off and doesent start for a few minutes or it will do it after dropping to like 300RPM. and sometimes it revs itself even when the engines reached normal temperature. it also runs badly, like at constant speed it feels like its juddering a bit.

Could just be a matter of needing a tuneup. Check compression across the cylinders, if that checks out the engine is fine and it's something menial.

^definitely a good place to start, as bad compression ends this discussion. After that if you've got a little money start with the basics of a tune up. Good oil change, spark plugs, wires, maybe a distributor (be sure to check timing). If after the tune up you still have problems, I'd say check for a sensor that is going bad and causing it to go haywire. My guess... o2 sensor, mass air flow or maybe throttle position sensor just to name a few that come to mind.

remove intake pipe, see if the butterfly is fully closed, could be the throttle cable is under too much tension, or could be the TPS.

any CEL codes? put in diagnostic mode.
