TRD THERMOSTAT - 6G Celicas Forums

TRD PART NUMBER FOR THE THERMOSTAT THATS COMPATABLE WITH OUR CARS OR 3SGE 3D GEN.
PRT01-35050-01
IS THIS THE CORRECT 1?
FOUND 1 IN STOCK AT MY DEALERSHIP WITH MY PRICE THEY WILL GIVE IT TO ME FOR 60 BUCKS.
I gave the dealer the VIN for my '97 GT 5SFE, and they told me a new cap was $35. I don't know the part number, or if there's a difference between Toyota and TRD.

DUH!!! I saw thermostat, and thought radiator cap. biggrin.gif I actually called for both, and both were $35 each. $10 for the gasket.

Why TRD? The beck/arnley 170*F unit is cheaper and is of very good quality.

I know our engines run stupid hot.
so I wanted something that opens up earlier than factory spec. I didn't know anything besides trd that made 1
im talking for 3sge. 3d gen not beams not 5sfe +D
you'll need a 3S-GE/beams/GTE thermostat, as they have different part # to the 3S-FE going off my complete TRD sticky

Is it difficult to change the thermostat? Sometimes my temp gauge moves and gives me hot air. Sometimes it does not budge and gives me lukewarm air. The cold is coming to Michigan already! Could this be a sticky thermostat?

Quickest way to check is to remove the radiator cap and warm up your car. Once the fan kicks in. Look into the rad cap hole and see if the coolant is flowing. If it's flowing then it's opening up. If it's not flowing then it's bad.

To replace the thermostat on our st204 isn't hard. It just sucks that the alternator and oil filter is in the way. You'll have to remove the oil filter for sure to get to it. The alternator is just going to be annoying but you can get by without removing it.

On a 2.2L it's quite easy. The hardest part will be bleeding out the air after changing it and replacing the coolant.

To make it a lot easier you can remove the alternator out of the way. The coolant neck below it requires removal of the two 10mm nuts. It just pulls out once you do and the thermostat will be reachable.

Make sure you drain the coolant first.

Oh and if your thermostat housing is plastic. Go ahead and go to AutoZone and buy a cast iron one. The plastic will break and bits can be pushed into your radiator, clogging it up.

nah my 3sge came with metal, and I had a customer with a vert 99 5sfe 200k miles he was complaining its slowing down at 35 mph and struggling I turned it off and on a few times on my rack and boom steam of clouds. I check and the thermostat housing the plastic one blew right there almost sprayed 1 of the other techs in the face...

I didn't know these actually came with a plastic housing at some point... ew.
