2AZ lightweight block option. - 6G Celicas Forums

Be careful you don't get scammed into an iron block while in Africa.

This article suggests that the 5sfe and 2azfe blocks are so similar, that they can be interchanged.

For those that are concerned about their cars balance or overall weight, this could be useful. I would be interested in building an all-alloy 5sfe. And If that is possible then a lightweight 3sge (stroker) may be possible as well.
Africa!

Hmm thats very interesting, I don't see how they could manage that though since all S-series engines have timing belts and AZ-Series have timing chains not to mention all the other components used for VVT-i, i'm pretty sure the only S-series engines that have the oil passages on the blocks for VVT-i are the red and black top beams, so i'm genuinely curious to see how they get these engines to work lol
ooo an alloy block 3sge redtop motor yay but in your dreams!

The article is vague about the technical parts. I don't know much about the 2az, but I agree that it doesn't appear to have any mating potential with the s series. But if people are in fact getting there cars back with a 5s/2az swap done, there is likely something useful to learn.
I think they're saying half because the S has an aluminum head like the AZ does, not because someone swapped the bottom end. The AZ could swap, it's roughly the same size and there are a couple years of overlap where the MZ and AZ series were in the Camry, however I'm not sure about height under hood.

It'd be interesting to see for sure. Far as I understood, the AZ series has a different bellhousing bolt pattern, but that can be rectified easily. We'll find out, I have a random blown tC trans in my garage that will get junked other than the bell. I want to see if it bolts to the E153 and such.

bnr32celica, I'm interested in the results of that. 2az would be my favored swap, but im lacking information like this.
I think thats the 2.0 forged crank engine i wanted to try and see if its crank could be used in a 3s as a lightweight option
