Can you reuse Flywheel Bolts? - 6G Celicas Forums

What's everyone's opinion on re-using flywheel bolts? I haven't poked into the service manual yet... just getting opinions.

Look up the torque spec, if it's X ft/lb plus X degrees (like 30ftlb and then 90 degrees) they are torque to yield and are to be used once then discarded since they've been stretched to their limit when they were installed. If the torque is just a ft/lb measure then they may be OK to reuse. There may also be a spec for length you can measure to determine their condition. When in doubt, replace.

the service manual and popular opinion says not to re-use them. HOWEVER I have re-used them on a stock application car and had no issues.

The bolt is a torque to yield meaning the bolt is stretched and therefore losses strength if used twice. but like i said, i have done it several times with no problems. There isnt an ARP bolt for the 5S-FE but the 7A-FE can use the 4A-GE ARP bolts and those can be re-used.

torque for OEM bolts is 36 lbs and then turn the bolt another 90 degrees. ARP bolts is 58 LBS using moly lube or 80 LBS using 30W oil

I'll reuse anything that isn't torque to yield.

As cheap as the OEM ones can be, I choose not to reuse them, but I've read many sources saying you'll be fine as long as you couple them with a little Loctite.

Hmm. I've only had to install flywheel bolts once but I used new, and blue loctite. It was an easy decision for me since tearing it apart once was hard enough, I didn't want to do it again for lack of proper hardware.

I've reused mine twice already. When I did my manual swap and then once the crappy clutch went out. Been running the bolts for almost 2.5 years with no problems. Just had loctite on them both times.

Reusing sounds okay so far... the loctite.... I may be a little skittish on...

I've reused mine at least 4 times so far. There are no issues and no need to spend money.

reuse, apply blue loctite, somthing like 76ftlbs, IIRC.
they arnt torque to yeild, so they are reusable, IMO.

i just checked my paperwork, the 7A-FE is not TTY, its 58 lbs with blue locktite. I havent found the 5S information yet.

FLYWHEEL INSTALLATION

Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the bolt end. Adhesive: Part No. 08833 - 00070, THREE BOND 1324 or equivalent.
Install the flywheel on the crankshaft.
Install and uniformly tighten the 8 bolts in several passes, in the sequence shown (see image). Torque: 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)

well there you go. i find it funny how toyota has different specs between cars. the 7th gen are both 36 lbs and 90 degrees. So is my Supra
