Exterior Side Window Moldings - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #91423 11 posts Started by Topaz95GT
Hello everyone,

Long time celica owner from Vegas, finally have the funds to restore it. I will be around these parts quite often from now on, however, one thing that brought me here today is this:

The heavy-duty molding that goes around the windows on each side of the car is starting to expand, thus causing it to pop out of its socket.

I've just started restoring a car that we've had in the family since 1995 and this is one of the things that is really bugging me because I need to figure out how to fix this before I paint it again.

Any suggestions on the name of this part or how to go about fixing it would be greatly appreciated.
Can you post some pictures please? There's a few different pieces of molding on the sides of the car.

It is the molding that goes up along the roof and behind the backseat windows. Sorry, very hard to get pics at the moment.
I have the same problem.. It's really an issue at the top where it gets more sun. I did not even touch it when i painted my car. It looks like the sun baked that strip and warped it. I'm guessing replacing is the only option..

Just to clear things up.. Its the plastic molding on the body above doors and back rear windows. It's one strip from the front mirrors to the rear windows.. It should be flush with body i'm guessing..

Not sure how you intend to fix them but removing them is easy. Pull the inside rubber seal of the door shut out carefully. The ends have plugs which pop out. This will expose a series of screws holding a shiny metal strip that pins the trim to the car. Unscrew those and it'll come off.
It's supposed to be like that. Nothing is wrong with your trim at all.

Damn, not the answer I wanted but good to know. They have been bothering me like 7 years, car was garaged for so long I thought that's what did it.
