So I just found this in the local for sale ads and was just curious if it would be worth it to pick up this 2nd gen 3SGTE? It says it has cracked ringlands on 3 pistons. How much would that cost to repair? Or should I just skip it and keep looking?

Keep looking.
You can buy a perfectly good used 3rd gen motor for only 800 bucks more on ebay.

What if I were to pick up just the turbo fron the engine? Would that be worth it? Or am I better off just finding a 3S?

its still a CT26. the turbo on the 3rd gen 3S-GTE is a much better turbo

I also believe this is from an MR2.
This belongs to Charles on Top Tier, Check the celica/mr2 thread. He frequently posts in there and has a build thread on this motor IIRC
