I'm not a big fan of the front fascia - it sort of reminds me of the LaFerrari. Though, I really like the side profile. And from behind, I totally see TVR Sagaris.
In any case, I'm excited!!

Looks like an enzo, viper, BRZ and an LFA got together and had a child......its pretty ugly.
But hey.....i'll take it.
it at least means Toyota still remembers the word "Fun"

I'd like that very much but I fear this car will be the product of the joint BMW/Toyota project and as such will have German powerplants.

I just saw this on motor trend and came to the forums to see if anyone posted it lol
The car looks amazing, not a fan of the interior but still a great exotic looking concept.
I don't care for the looks at all. I'm withholding judgement until I see how it performs.

regardless of anything, at least Toyota is moving back in the right direction.

IMHO, this car will never be close to a supra nor a celica. Looks nothing like one or the other. Still nice to see Toyota making an other car though. The Toyota sports line has been dead for so long. The ft86 revived it a bit. Now let's hope this one will be a true sports car. Hopefully over 250bhp/230tq. Lol.

The Toyota/BMW joint op is focused on a hybrid motor. Toyota doesn't even know what motor they want to use in the possible production version of this yet, but highly doubtful it'll be the hybrid they are working with BMW on. At least for the sake of the car this one might have to live up to, I hope the put a real motor in it with at least one turbo and not a hybrid.
lets all keep in mind that there will never be a replacement of the MK4 supra......... a car bearing its name maybe, but to replace that car would be a big mountain for toyota to climb..........

This. If the FT1 makes it to production, it may very well be the successor to the Supra but I doubt if it will bear the Supra name, just the same as the FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 are the descendants of the AE86 but they don't bear the Corolla name. Toyota is very aware of what the mkIV has become and what it's capable of. I'm sure they are very aware that if they build a new car and call it a Supra, videos all of the world will turn up daily of mkIV's slaughtering mkV's. That wouldn't be good marketing at all if their new top tier sports car gets beat daily by its 20 year old predecessor. This car may be the spiritual successor to the Supr but in my opinion, it won't ever see that name.

^with that being said....toyota needs to take the 2jzge and find a way to make it better. Maybe upgrade the 2jz to a 3.3-3.5l NA/Turbo. Lol. A new whole new line of engine would be fine too. As long as its a 6cyl inline engine and rwd. Lol
On a side note. Toyota needs to revive the Celica......maybe making a new Celica with a similar body of the old Gen celicas with a newer high revving inline 2.0 engine. but that won't happen because the ft86 was just produced with a success. Imseeing them around town just as much as I see the late gen civics.....

That's the problem, they won't make another 2jzgtte....This is a new era of gas mileage and tree hugging. The 2jzgtte is a relic of the past and riddled in old technology. They'll go aluminum block and mid range displacement and I would likely agree that there would be a turbo on it as its super popular to make power and keep the co2 emissions in spec. Would be cool to see it go the way of the LFA tech and be a higher revving V6 or V8 but still right around the 3.0-3.3L mark.

Toyota did....its called the Scion Tc
its cool to dream as a child, and think we will once become astronauts or presidents one day. But we all know toyota aint bringing the celica, mr2, supra back. Those lines are killed, period.....
they are not revising the 2jzge, 3sgte or any old toyota engine for that matter.
Oh, and i bet this will not be a toyota either. Its going to be a scion, or maybe grasping straws in air, this will be a lexus.
Have we not realized up until now, when are we waking up. Yes im mad at toyota, and possible become a different brand owner.

Completely agree. I think they saw what happened to Mazda with the RX-7/RX-8 in that regard. You have to keep moving up and improving on your cars, even if it's merely cosmetic or with regards to technology.
From a sports car, you expect the new one to be faster, handle better, etc. What Mazda did with the RX-8 is like if Toyota continued with a MKV "Supra" as the 7th gen Celica...

well it started as a celica / supra

This will not be a scion. It will be Toyota or Lexus if it does come around. This is WAAAAAAAAAAY out of the scion target market and price market....100k Scion

>well it started as a celica / supra
I'm well aware that the Supra was a spin off of the Celica platform.
The point was you don't go from a 2500 pound car with a TT rotary making 255hp and getting to 60mph in 5 seconds to a 3200 pound car with a N/A rotary making 180 (or whatever) and getting to 60MPH in around 8 seconds as a successor.
You don't go from a car that was built to compete with the top Cobra Mustangs, SS Camaro's and Corvettes of the day, and revive it to compete with a non-SI civic...
You come out with a different platform like toyota/subaru did if you're looking at targeting a younger crowd with a less expensive sporty vehicle. If you try to just "continue the legacy" like Mazda did with the Rx-8 you'll end up with... the Rx-8... which after years of awful sales is now dead. It was billed and priced like a successor to the RX-7 but without any of the performance.
Nissan is doing things the right way (350/370z) but I'm upset that it's taken Toyota and Mazda so long to get back to the big 3 of the early 90's with the Supra/300ZX/RX-7. Build a proper sports can and price it accordingly.

you think toyota looses sleep over these posts. LOL..
they can do and will do whatever they want.
just like they downsized the mr2 to a crappy spyder
they downsized the celica idea of big car, awd, to the last 7th gen, that was just a no no..
just like they downplayed the toyota 86 to a scion frs
they are not going to invest millions of dollars to get out a car, if they know it will not sale like hotcakes... Scion is like a waffle house right now....
And player is right, more likely it will be a lexus.... and will replace the IS..
there is no way it will be a tree hugging toyota....

Not so sure about that as it sort of falls inline with the Lexus RC-F. One of the FT-1 lead project members mentioned that Scion has the FR-S, Lexus has the upcoming RC-F, but Toyota as a brand lacks a performance car in its line-up and the FT-1 was conceived to change that.

when that happens ill trade my sti for it

HAHAHAHAAH you'll need 3 -4 NEW STi's to pay for this thing
lol, 3 stis, and a bag of chips...
a 100K toyota is doomed to fail,
a 100k nissan, did not, because they brought back a goodfellas name....

I've heard mixed responses. That Toyota aren't interested in doing performance cars anymore, they want to do more reliable & economic vehicles. Which I thought they already do that anyway?
Then they reveal this FT-1, from this angle GT86 front & LFA rear

And I don't know how reliable this is, a new supra, can't find the one I was looking for
