stud replacement - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #92910 4 posts Started by samboo
Hey,

last night i had to get towed home due to only having 1 stud still intact last night, seems that they broke off sometime yesterday. Is there a link on how to change the studs? I've already bought the studs, all i need to do is replace them now. Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks.

Replacing studs is relatively easy. How did they break off?

First, use a punch to drive what's left of the broken studs out of the hub.

Then, insert the new studs from behind, one at a time.

To pull the stud up tight you need to have a large hardened steel nut (like a lug nut) open at both sides so you can screw it all the way down to the surface of the hub. Tighten the hardened nut to pull the stud up inside its hole until it is solidly fit in place and there is zero gap between the head of the stud and the rear surface of the hub. Might be good to first place a washer against the front surface of the hub before tightening the nut, so you don't mar the hub.

Keep doing that for all five studs.

There may be better ways, but this will get the job done.

1 broke off when i was tightening them lug nut, but the others seemed perfectly fine, so i bought a replacement for that one, then when i was going home the rest must of broke off, not exactly sure
impact gun can help pull the new studs through
