screw celi's and go with somthing else - 6G Celicas Forums

No offence to any one that is in love with there celi.. I mean i like mine, it handles nice after springs an its fun, but its hella slow. ok, i mean its not a 74 bug, but its not fast or eevry really quick. and i was thinking about a swap, but it seams most people here end up spenging close to 9k, i mean if i could do it for 2.. maybe 3 i would. My real question is who here has just thought screw theceli and get a real sports car? and if so, which?.. Im really thinking about getting a a camaro or firebird, cause no really imports have enough real power. eh just all what iv come too after looking and search for info and prices for swaps. its just not happening
After i got mine all kitted and painted i went to try and trade it on an 01 Cobra vert.
FAST AND HELLA MEAN!!!!

But they only wanted to give me $12k for the celica, so i decided to keep it.
$12k was payoff. I was about to tell them sure, but im taking ever aftermarket off.

i have thought about it and was tempted to sell it a few times, but now that i have the gt4 look, my car looks too damn good. its got a better interior/exterior then most cars on the road, and it will be paid off in a few years.

i have also put in some money on mods, that would be lost if i sold it. so, now im thinking of doing the swap or the supercharger so that the car has the "go" to go along with its show.

Burien Toyota makes a turbo you might check that out I heard it gets 1.4 mile times down to the 14's!

I have also looked at toher faster cars (gsx, mr-2) and I jsut love my celica too much, plus insurance is much higher on faster cars..

Personally I'm jsut gonna stick with my gorgeous 69gt for about 6 or 7 more years till I can afford a 1998 Blk/Blk Single Turbo Targa Top 6spd Supra!!!

And open up a can of JAPANESE WHOOP ASS >biggrin.gif>
i got pretty tired of getting beat on the street so i finally said thats it, I'M selling my celi to get a fast car. i just couldn't let go of the celi though so i bought a 97 TT supra 6speed and kept the celi. hopefully next year the celi(94 gt 5speed) will have a 3s-gte engine swap.

>frown.gif> Guilty. but i dont think i said "screw the celica" it was more like i love ya, but this just isnt workin out >tongue.gif> anyways hopefully ill have one by next winter again, i need a winter car/daily driver now for work >biggrin.gif>

this is a rather rediculous topic. but ok, buy a camaro or firebird. and good luck, you're gonna need it.
no imports has real power?? damn u gotta be kiddin' me

sure those nasty civics always think they can rule the road with their muffler n shiet, but when talking about real sports cars, imports does have power.

i sugest that if you want a performance car that looks like the celi, get a twin turbo supra. i think that car is practical and it has performance. its hella fast, and many times i wish i can just sell my celi and get a TT supra.

hmm i reall want a gt4, just cuz no1 has it in the states. import cars are really good cuz they last long, cept mitsubishi's. the problem is that when they built the import cars here, the qaulity gets lower. i say go for supraTT

i dont like how people think life starts and ends with the MKIV supra... its a nice car, but i just find there are other cars out there just as if not more fun to drive. Id take my MR2 over a supra turbo any day, just because i find it more fun hauling balls through turns then doing it down a straightaway. other than that 300ZX TT, RX-7, 3000GT VR-4, WRX, EVO, plus many many more that can be made to be VERY quick in all aspects of driving.

the only reson i said any of this, is i want a faster car, and it's not worth spending time an money for any swap, compared to how cheap american cars are. and for haveing luck with them yeah i have, alot better then with my toyota. well gm more or less, i prefer gm over fords, ok first my chevy work truck, 89-1500 280k, just blew a rod no other major work on it. ma's 93 pontiac van 210k nothing wrong or replaced besides trans. um, lets see, pops 85 vette 210k with really no mantance until bro wrecked it, my 91 bmw 525i 160k not a single problem. my celli yet the newist with the least amount of miles, 133k burning a good amount of oil. no offence to ya'll but im kinda disapointed, i heard imports are good, an i dont even get that good gas milage, and wait, none of those other cars ever had a problem burning oil.... go-figure... ok im done

ok besides chevy, im in love with bimmers

I've thought about it...then I go outside and see it sittin there..damn I love the way it looks. Perhaps later on in life i'll need something a little more classy and respectable to represent myself (instead of a tricked out celi) but until then its perfect for me. Sure, speed is fine...and some american cars can be made to look good...its really a matter of preference. If you want to go that route fine, your insurance will inevitably be MUCH higher than it would with a celi though, if you think spending money on making the engine better is not a good idea....have you ever thought about doing some math and finding out just how much more you would be paying for insurance on a sports car like that instead of a celi? I'm pretty sure that in the long run it'd be cheaper to just upgrade. I really don't see much the use of speed anymore...sure fast is good, but unless you're takin it out on the tracks every night I don't get it.

well yea that thought has crossed my mine a few times... almost traded her in for a 300ZX, and all the cars i test drove the day i got the celi were a lot fast. But after having the celi for 4years and finally paying her off.. and i'm a little older and i dare say smarter so i realized many things in the last for years.. 6gc perfect car for city driving and it's a ture tunner car because you have use you tuning know how to get performance out of her.. its not like having a civic were there is almost no thinking about doing it... just open a mag and buy a bunch of bolt one a few thousand other people have..

yeah, true im not all about speed, im kindda more pissed that i thought getting my celi i would have a reliable car for atleast another 50k, not be burning oil kind bad an have to fix it. like im not crazy about some muscle car, I think its just cause it the only kinda a car i havnt had, in a sence. had a truck a pos beater, an suv, an lux .. bimmer, an now inmport... i really more or less prfer luxury kinda cars, cause i also dont wanna speed as much, i loved my bimmer the style and it was quick, ****, beat all kind's of civics um 2 02 6banger stangs an an 89 5.0 stang an two celi's.... its cruzin, i like cruzin really
Thought of it a few years ago... got a killer deal for a second Celica ST... bought it. Still have it... thought crosses my mind again fairly recently, considered engine swaps, performance builds, decided against the latter (sells parts that were purchased for performance build). Decides to buy an AE86. Looks, but can't find. Funny that I want another car that is just as slow as my current car... heh... but performance in acceleration isn't everything to me.

I think i like my celica... a lot.

I dont think I would trade my celica for anything. I dont know about you guys but around here Camaros and Firebirds are everywhere. I get soo many looks when I drive through the city. I just love my car, the shape, the way I fit perfectly in the seat, and the way when I look in my drivers side mirror the sun light reflects off my rear fender, damn these cars are sexy! lol. And I may not have crazy speed, but I know I am faster than these Honda punks out here and I am satisfied with that for now.

I can honestly say, I am a die hard 6gen lover. I love my car more than any girfriend I have ever had.

Now, then i hade so many things done to my car, i would never change it ot anything exept another Celica GT4 or Subaru WRX STi. These would be only 2 replasment cars... And more and more im starting to just come down on speed and acceleration stuff, maybe cuz i now drive 1.3 corolla..... well time will show.....

Ok I'm probably setting myself up for a flame - but why do you feel the need to go out and buy a massive fuel guzzling beast ?

In the light of the way world oil reserves are being consumed - and the fact that Bush has decided to ignore the rest of the worlds efforts to reduce greenhouse gases under the Kyoto agreement - surely people should attempt to make use of more fuel efficient & cleaner vehicles ?
e.g. Do you really need a massive 4litre Jeep when all you're doing is taking the kids to school and running to the supermarket ?

It may be a stereotypical view of americans but you guys have such cheap fuel that you all go out and have monster v8's etc. Toyota have been working for years to get as much power out of the engines they produce - as have most other Japanese manufacturers. The 7aFE is classed as a 'lean-burn' engine so that it gets a large amount of HP using a moderate amount of fuel.. I get 118BHP as stock in my SR and 174BHP as stock in my GT - both return about 40Mpg.

I will concede however that most of your cars are heavily restricted by the exhaust recirculation setups on your cars.. the real question is do you really need all that power when your speed limits are so low so you'll never really need it ?

I'm not some loony friends of the earth type person - hell I run 2 cars - but I do take an interest in 'future planing'. My old man used to work in the oil business (used to build Rigs for the oil fields in the North Sea, Brazil etc.. ) Even Shell announced this week that they'd over estimated world reserves of oil that were available.

Stick with the Celi mate. If you had to pay the fuel prices we do in the UK you'd be loking for something with a 1.0Ltr engine !

i got to feel for u guys in the us when u go on about speed when here in the uk the gt has ample bhp.
Speaking for myself im perfectly happy with my celica(desmond) 170 odds hp is plenty for some fun infact i just added a de cat pipe and what a difo it made >smile.gif>..
I would still be happy with it even if it had the st engine it as its such a stunning car to look at ..

I regularly cruise up and down motorways at about 70-80mph for a couple of hundredmiles a day in my SR (7AFE) and I have never burned oil..

Am i right in thinking the reason why your cars are underpowered even though they are a 3sge is due to the exhaust recirculcation and emissions controls ?

ive thought about it.... I thought about trading it for an mr2 turbo a while ago. But then i couldnt justify getting an older car. I would prolly get a WRX if the price was about 12,000 for a low mileage one.
I did when my friend with the RSX made so much fun of my car for being slow... but then I realized. If I had put as much money in as his parents gave him for the rsx *stupid rich parents* I would kill his car. And hell mines alot hotter I get all the attention so im like ah what the hell. I debated hard on changin, but lets face it, I dont need to impress girls on the highway by passing em at 110, I would prefer to chill in the parkinlot talkin to friends with my baby >smile.gif> Besides, I dont need a faster car, why give myself the temptaton, and all that money I save in gas... new speakers... yum >tongue.gif>
the MR2 just doesnt get the attention the celica got. wether thats good or bad, ill find out later on. but yea, its not the same feeling you get in the car... in the celica i felt i could handle the car very well and felt like i need to tune this car up to my driving level, so i was really comfortable and confident in the driverseat... now i kind of feel i need to tune my driving level up to match the car... i really feel i should have spent a little more time learning on the celica before making the jump into the MR2... but alas i guess ill get used to it.

I've definetely thought about selling my car. I have an ST and it only cranks out 105hp... And sheesh there isn't even a header made for it! But when I'm drivin I hardly ever see a 6th generation Celica. Much less a nice one like the tuners' on this site. But I see Honda's all day, every day, and so the appeal of having one isn't there. Every magazine I pick up has nothing but Honda's and Acura's in it and I get so tired of it.

A tuner is an innovator. Is doing what everyone else does innovative? Are we followers or leaders? Domestic cars are a whole different thing though. If you really want horsepower then yea get a domestic sports car. It'll crank out the power. The Celica is a beautiful looking car and few people have one. But unless you're willing to throw down the green, it's not made for performance.
