Adding OE remote locking - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #93163 4 posts Started by Duke_W
Hey, I looked around a while, and yesterday I added a post to an existing thread, but it doesn't seem to be appearing.

I have a '97 ST with power locks but no remote. From reading here it appears that the receiver should be a black box located under the driver's seat. This is also integrated with a factory alarm. I don't really care about the alarm part of it, but I am looking to see if I can just buy a used OE receiver unit and fob and plug it in.

Is the chassis harness there even if the Celica didn't come with remote? I've done this in 2 different Subarus - one had an additional subharness that needed to be found with the receiver. The other one had a pigtail already in place in the chassis harness and I just needed to plug the unit in and mount it.

Any information will be appreciated. Thanks.
well you need to look to see what kind of box you have, to even start looking for a remote, as there were sevral versions

Thanks for the info. I found the box, but I couldn't really read the part number. It looked to be a single black box about 2"x3", with 2 mounting flanges. One side was ziptied to something under the driver's seat; maybe the left side rail. The car also does have the TOYOTA SECURITY light by the driver's knee, although for some reason, the bezel is installed upside down.

Is there a key somewhere about which remote goes to which receiver? Thanks again.
take a picture of the box, and post it, it may not be a oem box. I have a different kind of box... its not oem.

Try to look for a brand name, or FCC code. then google that. my box was located underneath the steering wheel. the box you describe may not be it.

reason s located under the steering wheel, is that is where it taps to the doors, the windows, and lights.

youll have to remove this panel to see the bpx
