This is a great instructional video on the inner workings of a manual transmission works. It's a GM video from 1937 O.O on an old 3 speed transmission.
Yet I still found it very informative and relevant for the sake of the basic operation and how the synchronizer works

ah Jim Handy. I love how this is when you only had the springs and no gas shocks. when their in the car that thing is just floating around. ...struts and tires are next for me.
when I first bought this thing I bought it from the kids uncle who told me he was de mechanic and he had just put in de motor jus lass week, but it make a little noise "whiiir", I tink maybe got the timing belt a leetle to tight. *makes small gesture with fingers*
Not having seen the Toyota motor yet I thought of my neon and was wondering how is it too tight if it has an automatic tensioner? I thought to ask but didn't if he had went ahead and did the water pump while he was at it because I thought that was a dumb question, who the hell wouldn't?
8 weeks later the water the water pump starts dribbling and making an awful Squaak Squaak. and when I took it apart I found it had the factory Toyota water pump, and pulleys, and it had a spring the wrong size on the tensioner. Now it runs nice and quiet.
I did my homework before I bought the Toyota, and even when **** breaks im still happy with it. it's a Good Machine.

as for springs... we do this **** all day long in school, and then I spend all night long trying to figure out how the hell that works. once I get some time at the end of this summer class I'll do a right up for some problems and put them in the Nerds thread, you'll wish you'd never see another spring again.

they say that's next, another sports car. he also talks about how they tried to sue Top Gear for putting down their roadster, that the guy is biased against electric cars, and American cars.

LOLWUT at trying to sue Top Gear. I don't like electric cars as cars either, cars are supposed to make noises. Whirring of an electric motor doesn't count. I recognize they're capable, it's just weird. Sorta how people first felt about horseless carriages I suppose.
