Topic #9319 10 posts Started by belizecelica
I am wondering if I can change th stock lights in the dash behing AC and heater contorls from the green to another colour like blue or red? Is it a simple swicth of the bulbs?? If so does anyone know the number bulbs installed??
They're tiny LEDs, and require soldiering...it's not simple, and best left to someone that knows a lot about doing it. Someone around here was doing it for a fee a while back.
yes, it is doable, i changed them last week..

Do a search, there was a post a few months ago that had a picture of the climate control with the face removed. It had some usefull information.
there are 3 bulbs and one LED for each button....
Its not too hard to replace them, just need to find the right bulbs...there was a post a few months earlier, should give you all the details....mine is a manual control...
I was tinkering with my heater control cluster today.. it was a bit of a twat to get out - mainly the manual contrl cables.. but I did get access to the 3 bulbs in it.. AND may have found replacements !!

Having got the unit apart i went onto t'internet to find replacements and found these >>>

type 74 bulbs on a base..

Twist-Lock type instrument LED bulbs consist of a T 1 1/2 (#73/74) miniature LED bulb plugged into a twist-lock socket base. LEDS have wide viewing angle.
Available with White Blue Green Red and Amber LED
Overall length: 21mm Extends into cluster: 14mm

needless to say along with a few other bits of Autoillumination.com (I bought from there before i found this site) I have got $50 worth of bulbs being sent o min ein the UK as there's f'all like these available in the uk !
Could someone post a how to article on this. I would like to know how to do it, I wanna change the color of the led's in my climate control. So it matches my radio and indiglo gauges.
changing the actual LED's may be a bugger to do - I spoke to my uncle who designs electronic cicuitry and the like, his advice was that for the time and potential hassle of changing the LED, a better option was to use some stage lighting gel over the LED window to change the colour.

Someone has posted a thread on the work they had to do to change the LED's already but getting the right ones and the resistors was taking time and you had to order a large amount when you only needed a handful of components.
