Crank but no start - 6G Celicas Forums

Ok so 2 days ago I was driving my car home and on the way back it just shut off. Didn't hear any noise or anything just turned off. I checked to see if I have spark and I don't.
I changed the
Dizzy
Cap
Rotor
And still nothing kind of lost. It's a 94 gt but I didn't an engine swap a few months ago and put on a 96 engine.
The car still turns over but doesn't want to turn on again.
I'm checking coils next and also my crank sensor wondering what you guys had in mind or have you guys had this problem.
Any help will count thanks.
Also when I crank it the rpm will not move at all. Hasn't turned back on since the day it happen

id say if you have no spark at all look at things like the coil and the igniter, check the fuses and relays as well.

Does the check engine light illuminate with all the other warning lights when the key is turned to the ON/RUN position?
Yes the check engine light turn on with all the other lights ??
Check the primary and secondary resistance on the coil. Check the fuses. Check the resistance of the crankshaft position sensor if you have one.
if you have a 94 but you put a 96 motor in it im assuming you still have the OBDI parts like the dizzy and wirelimb and such.
therefore you don't have a cranksensor, or at least the cranksensor on that motor is not plugged in. it only has the camsensor built into the distributor.
also jump the connection in the Diagnosis box from Te1 to E1 and count the flashes on the CEL light. code 12 means its not reading the signal from the distributor.
and don't buy used Ignition parts. biggrin.gif

like I said either the distributor isn't putting out the signal, or the ecu isn't picking it up, or you've got connection issues in the wires.

Spray starting fluid into the throttle body with the intake hose removed and try to start it. If it suddenly gets ignition you have a fuel issue, if it still doesnt get any fire you have an ignition system issue.

Ive also heard of people popping timing belts, you can tell by the sound of the motor cranking.
ya or what I did was take the dizzy cap off and put my phone on video and record the rotor spinning while I cranked it.

Yeah I checked the timing belt and everything already I know I'm missing something what idk lol but I'll find that problem

The same thing happened to mine turned out it was the distributor and also could be the fuel pump. But that obd 2 sounds like it might be also be a problem

Also what ive found out is you can get the Toyota TIS scantech software if you know how to bittorent http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/9618277/Toy...25_%281.2014%29
from there all you need is a laptop and a 25 dollar usb to odb2 cord, and a 10 dollar odb1 to odb2 adapter.(ebay)
some things might still not make sense if you're not a trained mechanic but you're sure to get more clues like you can see the scope pattern of the distributor signal.

And, if you take a simple test light tester, hook it to the positive terminal of the battery then take the dizzy cap off and remove the plastic protecter put the test light to the Negative terminal of the ignition coil and have somebody else crank the key.
you should see the light Flash off and on, if it doesn't flash that means the igniter is not switching the circuit off and on. which would mean you need an igniter.

I'll try everything out again tomorrow on my day off and see how it goes I know I don't have a crank passion sensor cause all that has to be removed to do the swap.
The thing is my car also got flooded like 6 months ago and I'm thinking that might have something to do with it.
Mine turned out to be the ECU. replaced it and she fired right up.
you can take it out and open it up, not guaranteed, but often if its bad you'll see it burned up or a capacitor crap goo on itself somewhere.
