Spring Coil Bind - 6G Celicas Forums

So i purchased these TRD front Springs 48131-ST001(@ 4.1kg spring rate) for my superstrut conversion. So i didnt see rust when i bought them until i received them. So now that i've learned about coil bind/sagging from sport springs. You wouldn't think it would happen to good quality TRD Springs. pics as follow. so basically what can i do? i've read from an Subaru Forum that you can definetly tell if the springs are bad unless you get the manufacture specs of the distance between each coil. I've read that EIBACH and TRD springs are one in the same, is this true?? the length of TRD spring measure in @ 24.5 cm and claim a 1 inch drop and Stock ST205 springs are 30.5cm @ 2.5kg spring rate.

Are they real TRD springs? I'm fairly sure they're supposed to have "TRD" throughout the spring, of course they could be on the other side from what the pictures show. Not sure about TRD, Eibach, or whoever but Tein warrants against anymore than 5mm of sag.

I know, that's why I said what I did about them being on the other side of what the pictures were showing. tongue.gif Anyway there shouldn't be more than a few mm of sag I'd think.

An inch is 2.54 cm, so it would seem something is off?

Aren't they 4.2kg the fronts? Where did you get your spring rates from, as they are a bit off?


The previous owner must have done some interesting driving or had a bit of weight?

The previous user was a sumo wrestler that drove through the snow whenever possible, it makes sense so go with it. tongue.gif

ah yes rusty correction i had it wrong but you were slightly off too(i corrected the first post). I assumed it was 3.9kg because it was superstrut, but they were actually mcpherson springs on his superstrut suspension(perhaps his local parts store he bought them from didnt have the specific trd superstrut springs in stock and he just settle for mcpherson TRD spring rate which are .2kg softer

So correction the TRD front springs i have are 4.1kg

I went off part numbers, and then did fresh acaluation, and rounded the last number up too much, though your ST205 springs spring rate are a bit low still see my thread

ive heard some springs having million mile warranty.

The end of the coil touching the next coil is normal since it's not a full coil being compressed, make sense?
