The vtec is what gives it 40mpg. I mean with the Celica GT at 40mpg I just don't see how the Prius even sells .

Not really, vtec varies valve lift, later vtec incorporated vvt, vvti is just vvt with no lift changes, vvtl-i is more like vtec since it has a second set of fat ass cam lobes.

It all translates to I have to depend on tech wizardry to still get stomped by an archaic V8. I knew the 2ZZ-GE changed lift, couldn't remember with the 1ZZ-GE.
