Petrol smell in oil? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #95632 6 posts Started by Liam_c
Hey guys

I went to check my oil the other day, and when i pulled out the dipstick i could smell a faint smell of petrol....

Obviously that doesn't sound great... frown.gif

It seems to be running fine. No sign of smoke etc. My fuel consumption has increased but thats more likely the fact i've moved to town and am now doing a lot of stop go driving...

Im going to pull out the sparkys tonight and see if they're screwed - Is there anything else i should check???

Mines a 3SFE

Thanks!

Liam
Could be injectors are leaking, or the fuel pressure is too high due to a faulty fuel pressure regulator. The other possibilities being plugs are fouled/worn and not igniting the fuel mixture properly. Worst case rings are letting blowby occur, though usually you'd have oil burning happening as well.

its normal. theres no such thing as a perfectly sealing piston, even when brand new
It shouldn't reek of fuel though, a slight odour is normal.

Just saw where it said faint. Yeah, if there's 3,000+ miles on the oil and it's a faint smell you're fine. Though a tuneup wouldn't hurt if it hasn't been done in awhile.

Yeah I'm sitting at about 9K kms ( about to do one shortly rolleyes.gif )

I haven't exactly had alot of money lately so I've been really slack in terms of maintenance frown.gif But i got around to doing my spark plugs. The car has been driving alright so I havent thought to check the sparkies but they were screwed! I thought they may have been long life platnum ones, but it just had some cheapies in it that haven't been changed since before i bought it 70,000km ago laugh.gif

Lets just say my accelerations alot nicer laugh.gif
Thought about the other day then forgot to reply, a clogged PCV valve can also cause it as then the car won't burn off the oil contaminants.
