Header Question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #96157 12 posts Started by senick
I did do a search, and I read up on the 7a header install writeup, which was helpful. However, I still have a few questions.

First, in the 7a exhaust, is that a catalytic converter directly downstream of the exhaust manifold? It's a larger cylindrical part that I can't see what else it could be.

Second, will this ebay header replace everything up to the main cat?

Finally, the writeup states that there are two O2 sensors, but is that also the case with an OBDI car? There is no claim by the header manufacturer that there are two spots for O2 sensors, so does that mean I would have to get the downstream one welded in?

Thank you very much for any help.
i have a 7A header and down pipe for sale. it will replace everything and bolt up to the rest of the exhaust under the car.

Yeah looks cool, my only concern is the fitment though. I don't want to have to take it to a shop to weld up any poorly fitting parts. Anyone else have this header installed on their st? Or do these ebay parts in general require modification?
I see, yeah the header I have is a 100% bolt on, It was on my GF's car that got wrecked. there is a part out thread in the FS section

Cool. And the ebay one? Should it be bolt-on or will there be issues? I've heard of problems with other headers clearing the oil filter, not mating up to the cat, etc...
i dont know. never messed with one. it is for a carolla so there might be fitment issues

if it specifies 7a and celica 1.8 i would think it would be a direct fit, but if its corolla only, then it might not.

Yeah, it does specify a Celica ST. I guess the question is; is the exhaust system different in a corolla and celica st? I think I'll just order it though. If I have to take it to an exhaust shop then so be it. I just worry about the oil filter, but the location would be the same on any 7a car right? I mean the engine is exactly the same.
I don't believe there were ever any direct bolt on headers for the 7afe celicas. only corollas, hence the writeup saying you'll have to take it to a shop to extend the piping underneath.
I've got that header on my 7afe. works fine. bolted up with no issue, just had to have a shop weld in the piping.
oil filter is fine as well. i can reach it with my hands, just as long as it's not too hot under the hood.

Thank you for that info, that's very helpful. So how much piping is required to stretch to the cat? And did you use clamps temporarily before taking it to get welded?
