1mzfe spark plug tube removal - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #96502 16 posts Started by doory100
How in hell do I remove the spark plug tubes on my 1mzfe motor. they don't have threads on top like the 5s. I have tried heating them up and pulling them up and out with vise grips but they wont budge. any help would be appreciated.

I need to resurface the head. That's a perfect reason!! Actually the only reason.

I think they're pressed into the head during assembly and are not to be removed, I don't think Toyota sells them apart from the head as I don't seem them on any parts diagrams. Hope you didn't screw them up so bad they won't seal anymore, looks like if you did then you just junked a head.

I have a assembly drawing that shows them being installed and sealed on a new head. How would a machine shop machine a head with the tubes patruding out. My 5s ones came out but they were screwed in. I was wondering if they pull out. I watched a video and a guy pulled them out. Not a Toyota head it may have been a dodge.

I didn't see them on the Toyota parts diagram, usually if Toyota doesn't sell it then it's not meant to be taken apart.

May be that they couldn't be removed, but you can't buy new ones. You could try blowing some heat down them with a heat gun for a while to see if that'll break the bond I guess. Why do you need to remove them to surface the head?

they dont protrude to the bottom surface, havent you ever looked at a head before? you dont need to remove them

Calm down. I'm not sure how the machine process goes but it would be hard to run them through a machine with tubes sticking out. I want to put them through this machine to resurface the head. It's basicly a machine to sand metal so it should work in theory . if it dosent work then I'd machine it at a shop.

They are just aluminum tubes cut to a specific size. If for some reason I did mess one up I'm sure I can get a tube and cut it to size. According to the assembly drawing I have. It says that you coat them with atf then press them in using a SST.

Well I have given up. No luck and I don't want to damage the tube so I guess I'll have to figure out how to do this another way. Thanks for the help.

Use an inside pipe wrench to try to spin it after dunking the head in boiling water? Maybe cool the tube with inverted canned air too?

again i dont know why you want to pull these. what gave you this inception idea in your head? whoever did it is good. did you succumb to a Jedi mind trick?

you dont have to do this

Like I said. I gave up. So I'm not removing them. But the reason was to put the head through the machine in the picture above. It maxes out at 5.5". The heads are in spec so I decided to just orbital the top with 240 grit sand paper and check the specs again.
