And by new I mean NEW. I just bought a 2004 Toyota 5SFE to put into my car to swap with my 78k 5SFE from 1995. My current 5S was totally messed up. I don't remember all things, I'll have to ask my stepdad. I know compression was off, things were leaking left and right, valves needed grinded. Stuff the previous owner did to nearly kill it but throw it back together to sell to us only to eventually bog down. I'm really upset because I'm not even going to tell you how much a brand new 5SFE cost me. Yeah yeah, 3sgte and what not. parents wouldn't let me, my mechancic swayed them from that one. I had my doubts about it. It's used so I don't know what could happen.

Also, with the new 5SFE I get to start with truely 0 miles and a 3 year unlimited warranty.

Thoughts?

Very nice. I dont think that an engine like the 3s-gte is neccesarily for everyone...a new 5sfe will run and feel great to drive and should up your resale value a bit in the process. I would have done the same if my engine blew up, except i'd get an older 5s-fe and build it from the bottom up instead with a full P&P job, pistons, rods, etc. N/A power, baby.

I wouldn't mind doing all that. Just not gonna have much money for a while lol

The new 5S-FE has 1 more horsepower and 5 more torque. Its interesting how it takes them 10+ years to get that little amount of extra power out of the engine...
I dont think they were actively trying to increase the power...

I'd assume that a company would want to improve an engine through increasing power, gas mileage, etc. Just an observation on the power, I could be wrong...
actually all that happend was they switch over to the "Standard" metals and materials to make it. Which is obviosly better so it increased the HP just a little and probably the reliablity A LOT. Oh yea, BTW, GM makes the bottom ends now. More then likely the 1995 engine you had was made in japan.
Yeah it was made in Japan. Anyway my question is will my short ram still work? Are there visual differences or any differences between new 5SFE's and old ones?
