ST202 front right drive axle problem - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #97329 5 posts Started by Gloomdrifter
So last weekend I was driving, and from traffic lights I tried to do a bit faster start, but not full 100% as road was wet and I have winter tires on, and front right drive axle broke in half. It is a bit weird, but main problem is that car doesn't move now.

So question: are drive axles between AT200 (1.8L) and ST202 (2.0L) interchangable? As 1.8L models are much more commont to find in scrap-yards than 2.0L models here in Latvia? Or do I only have option of 2.0L drive axles?

Thanks for the help, guys!
The 1.8's come bolted to a C series trans, and the axles are not interchangeable between the two. Unfortunately you'll have to find a replacement axle from a 2.0.

Damn, I was really hoping they are, ok I'll keep looking for 2.0's. Thanks for the quick answer Richee3!

I would've guessed that transmissions are the same and only are different for GT4's. The more you know...
Would a 4 cylinder Camry have the right axle?

The length would be off, as Camry is wider, hence longer halfshaft. 25 3/8" for Celica L, vs 26 13/16" for Camry. The actual CVs are probably same, just the shaft is a different length. I guess if you're feeling really adventurous, you can get the camry one and use the parts off that to put on your shorter celica shaft, but that would be quite a bit of effort.
