Which Suspension/Handling Upgrades First? - 6G Celicas Forums

Hello,

I'm planning on doing some upgrades to my car's suspension and handling and just wanted to know which upgrades I should start with.
Here's a list on what I want to do:
-Coilovers
-Strut Bars
-Sway Bars
-Polyurethane Bushings
-And maybe end links

And if you guys have any other more suggestion, more upgrade is appreciated. Thanks!
that will get you far. beyond that there really isnt too much more you can do

the one thing you missed is the most important. tires.

RE71R's or similar compound tires will do so much for the car

If you're changing your spring and strut to coilovers, or even lowering springs and a new strut, you'll likely need to change end links anyways. Most times you have to cut them off the stock set up, so I'd plan to change them, rather than a maybe.

Either than that you've got a pretty good list there.

Like the others said, can't really think of anything else (other than underbody bracing) that would give you much of a boost. That's a pretty comprehensive list.
And like tiga said, TIRES!! If I were forced to choose a single handling upgrade, it would be a good set of tires. You'll see the biggest single improvement there.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. So in which order would you all recommend I start with? I'm guessing good tires would be first?

Lol I actually watched a lot of Engineering Explained when I first started looking at mods. Also, I feel that if I was to get good tires then I would want a nice set of new wheels as well.
I'd say tires/rims, coil-overs, sways, poly bushings, then strut braces last. Though if your bushings are worn out and need replaced I'd move those on up to right behind tires/rims.

I think he does a good job explaining how things work but it's too much math for me lol


And thanks guys! I'm currently running TC wheels on 215/45/17 tires and since good tires seem to be the top choice, I might use the TC wheels as my winter wheels and buy nicer wheels. Or I can start with what I can afford first lol

Just recently put on some new OEM replacement rotors and brake pads but what I really need is new calipers.
The tC rims are nice quality being an o.e. piece, just on the heavy side compared to some other options out there. Being you live up north for tires I'd look into the BFGoodrich COMP-2 A/S or Cooper Zeon RS3-G1 or RS3-A for a performance all season that won't cost an arm and leg, they're not necessarily cheap but they're not the most expensive ones out there either.

Had the same dilemma before and I ended up getting new lowering springs and struts. I went with Tein springs and bilstein shocks. A bit stiff yet ride is still comfy.
What do you want to achieve from the car?
A lot depends on this answer.

Decided to go with Eibach lowering springs and KYB struts and car definitely handles better. But the reason is that sometimes I like to go to the backroads and drive my heart out so there's that. But if I can, I might wanna to take my car to the track.
