GT-S vs. GT - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #9887 27 posts Started by Wishful3S-GTE
I got a question. How would the 7th gen USDM GT-S keep up with a 6th gen GT? I love them both and I'm startin to lean towards a 7th gen cause it's newer but I dont' wanna settle for a slow piece. The GT-S make about 150 HP with VVTL-i right? And the GT is about ... 110? I think they would both be the same ... so can I get some backup on this?
180 not 150 and it would take a gt st anyday

7th Gen GTS would kill a 6gen GT
Think he's referring, or trying to refer, to wheel HP. The 7th gen GT-S stock puts down about 150ish HP and the bone stock 6th gen GT at this time would put around 95-105 depending on miles, how it was driven, etc.

The GT-S will be sooo much faster than the the old 5SFE GT's... you won't know what hit you (assuming the person behind the wheel knows how to drive it). Better chassi, more powerful, lighter, newer, better suspension, probably one of the best n/a vehicles in its class.

the whole thing is GTS not GT because with the gt compression turbo's and superchargers just aren't happy and no 6th gear >tongue.gif> .

Well I guess my thoughts were wrong. I suspected that the two would be able to keep up with each other but I guess the 7th gen kills. I guess I'll be tryin to find one of those instead. It's just the whole concept of newer car and all ... plus you can get a lot more stuff for them then for 6th gens. By the way ... any sites where I can get some in depth info on those (other than celica.net)?
Turboing a 7th gen would not be too good of a move ... If my memory serves me right those things have 11.5:1 compression and that kinda compression usually doesn't make for good forced induction setups.

ya dude...turboing a 7th gen will just end in a lot of money being spent for a short lived ride

I thought it was only the GT were turboing became a problem

i think trd makes a SC for it and their are already 2 turbo kits out for the 2zzge engine .. so turboing will not be a problem..

Personally I hate those stupid new Celicas. Toyota turned the old classy sportsy style car into a freakin trendy car that only people that have money and want some fast power. Toyota really screwed up by putting the Celica name on that vehicle. Just my opinion on that though.
I dont think they are all that expensive, considering our cars were in the same price range when they were new, and with the 7th gen GT-S you get a hell of a lot more car than the 6th gen GT. Plus those things are freakin sweet on the inside, you feel like youre in a jet when youre sitting in the drivers seat. Theres a real good chance that a GT-S will be my next car.
Actually up here a late model 6th gen is more then a 2000 Celica GT, I think look awesome and hold true to Toyotas unique style. I mean your cant compare the 7th gen to any ca, its totally its own, thought the new rsx has similar shape, but thats not toyotas doing.
Drive one and you'll see that the 6th gear sucks! I'd only go into it if I was using cruise control going 70 or 80 on a freeway. That gear is basically a overdrive gear but worse lol. Other than the 6th gear, I love how the 7th Gen GT-S drives, very zippy except in 1st. I couldn't really slam on it when I drove it since I had someone with me, but it didn't seem to have that much pick up in 1st, but I heard once you hit the lift boost it's a nice feeling...which I think is like from 5.5k rpm and up.

The 7 gen is indeed a pretty little car. Its quite good and it is for sure more powerful than the 6 gen. The technology put in that car is for sure far greater than the 6 gen. I do not have any particular problem with the 7 gen and i have to say the aftermarket support is much greater (from Euro clear tail lights to Lambo/Sciccors doors)

I particularly though am displeased that the car is smaller than the 6 gen and relates more to the integra category. So when i had to choose to replace my 6gen Liftback (Curren), and the 6gen GT4 was an option for me, i did not even gave it a second thought.

GT4 Rules the street.
I dislike the 7th gens because for some STUPID reason toyota put a rev limiter on them (i think at 6900 revs, correct me if im wrong) yet they dont put a limiter on cars such as the matrix.. what the hell is that? >mad.gif>

The interior of the 7th gen is awesome, I personally think its one of the nicest of any car in the class, even nicer than the RSX in my opinion, but I must say the exterior looks crappy at best.

ok i have the chance to drive 94 celica gt (mine) and 2000 gt-s Ceilca (moms) almost every day. The amount of power between the two is not even comparable. the 2000 kills the 1994 celica even with a bad driver in the seat. I wish the 94 had the power that the 2000 has but hey thats a whole different ball game and plus i like how the 94 handles and drives a little tighter than the 2000gts. Though when i drive the 2000 i feel like i can whoop anything out on the road and the leather seats are pretty nice. The 6gen would take it off the line but thats about it. The thing that gets me is that 2000 feels weird when u take corners fast, because it slides to easily i think. So for those who dont know the comparison that should give you a pretty good idea what the speed difference is. too bad 7 gen looks like a cool box on wheels, shame we can have those 2000 gts rims on all 6 gen celicas these days.
the 6th gen is a better build. It cost the same to buy, but you cant forget unflation. If a 6th gen gts cost 30,000 canadian in 94 and in 2003 a 7th gen gts costs 30,000 canadian there is a loss in quality. thats 9 years apart and the cost hadnt changed.... something is wrong there

the 6th gen is a very solid car and the 7th gen just isnt built as well.
fast as hell but not as solid

i will keep my 6th gen as it will probably have fewer problems when it gets older
