This is my post that I am going to keep updating on my "project/Daily Driver".

12/30/04: Sent my Money Order to ArizonaRed for his old turbo-kit, consisting of a T25 turbo, oil return lines manifold, Downpipe, MAP box, FMU, BOV and intake piping, no intercooler.

01/01/05: Starting off the new year with a Apexi SAFC 2, just ordered it for $260, I got the silver one.

do us a favor, get those hubs off they look goofy, and GET AN INTERCOOLER
lol dont diss the mans hubs... but get some rims or hubs that hide the stock rims so it wont look bad. Can i see a pic of that turbo kit??? How much did you get it for because i got a Carina sx with a 7afe that i am looking to turbocharge also and have done much research. You can find an intercooler on ebay but if ur buyiong a fmic i would much quicker buy a used one than one of those new ones selling cheap... i heard those power seller units leak easily and dont cool very well so it would be better to either buy from a online site or store that sells the real stuff new or to buy a used one from ebay that is proven good and maybe came off a stock turbo vehicle... For higher performance u could also look into a free flow cat and converting the whole exhaust to either 2.5 or 3 inch with a performance muffler that meets sound regulations in your state... I feel sorry for you guys because in the caribbean we dont face all those regulations and all sports cars drive around with no catalytic converters and super loud exhaust systems and any intake manifold and filter they please and also with as much horse power and any aftermarket parts. We also dont face vehicle emmision testings.
yeah no **** the caps look goofy but im getting 18s next months so i could care less. My plans are to buy an intercooler on johnnyracecar, and i plan on getting a custom 2.5" exhaust and rebuilding a bottom end with a balanced crank, new bored out cylinders and bigger lower compression pistons, new rods, injectors, fuel pump, and a new head. She'll go! Should all be done by april.

That is gonna cost alot. How much did u get that turbo kit for? And does the T25 turbo or the T 3 turbos suffer from much turbo lag?
Im not worried about turbo lag just yet, when i get my rebuilt head im having it machined by a guy near me for 80$ port and polish and 3angle valve job so ill flow some awesome loads of air.

i bought the kit for 810$ I believe its a water-cooled T25 BB turbo with the kit.
Ok well tell me what you think of this deal... A local machanic told me he will charge me $1472 US to turbo my 7afe. That includes all intercooler tubing, custom made exhaust manifold, T3 garrette turbo, greddy BOV, FMU, Front mount intercooler, all oil lines, boost guage and electronic boost control plus complete installation... What do you think of that? He said he can get it done in 3 days. Should i go for it?
ooo sounds like you got good plans for your ride ...don't gotta get mad about the hubs all ya had to do is say "yea i'm takin care of them next month with sum hot 18s"

but can't wait to see the progress

Also.. uhh.. water cooled?

The T25 might be a bit small for your application.. but at least you won't suffer from lag at all.

Yeh he showed me all the parts already and he has done alot of good work for other people... He managed the rb20det swap into a 240sx and has done many 3sgte swaps into both ST and GT celicas. It seems like alot to pay since it is $4000 easten caribbean dollars... I think i might go for it... How loud is a BOV at 5-8 psi?

Well, the price you gave was USD right?

Thats a really good price for all the stuff you listed man, I'd just be worried that he's using cheap used parts, etc

Well I know it is a BB turbo, its either a T3 or T25, so either way it works for the application, and for sure its going to rock when its all done.

And yes water-cooled, its got lines for the oil to do the lubrications, but extra lines for the anti-freeze to cool it.

I got a garrette turbo with an A/R .51 compressor housing and A/R .38 turbine housing at home with the T3 style exhaust flange... Any turbo experts know much about this turbo and how well it will be suited for turboing a 7afe??? The price goes down if i supply all my own parts to the mechanic.

Well I know it is a BB turbo, its either a T3 or T25, so either way it works for the application, and for sure its going to rock when its all done.

There isn't such thing as a BB T3 turbo- well, you can get a GT30R Dual BB which has a T3 style housing.. for 1290.
lol boy thats expensive... for that price i can import a 3sgte and tranny from japan and put it into my car and that is actually being serious...

I am for real. Almost all the cars on this island are used japanese imports. We drive on the left side of the road in right hand cars like the english do and there are no emmision laws or any costly replacements that need to be done to japanese imports to make them street legal here like in america. Everey month a car carrier from japan arrives bringing in more and more cars. Last month 2 more WRX subaru imprezas came in and we have over 25 skylines, 3 fto's, 20 lancer evolucians, many 3000gt's and MR2's and all other japanes sports cars that you americans have to pay an arm and a leg for to import.

I'm really holding myself back on this thread. But I'm going to do my best. BigLipZit or whatever, you may wanna hold off on turboing your car. I know it's exciting, but by the things you're saying, I'm thinking you don't have the knoweldge to boost your car. and even if you have someone do it for you, you need to know your ins and outs so you know what your doing to your engine when.

You also said for whatever price (I skimmed this thread) you could get a 3sgte engine and tranny. You do know 3s trannies are fairly useless to us, unless you convert it to awd, which I'll add is yet to be done. (personal opinion: I don't believe neverstop's claim of pulling off the swap.)

Demon, i'll say the same warning to you as i did zitkid. I'm not trying to bash but help. Turbos on n/a intended engines are not a cake walk. Know what your doing. And you're in the forum to learn it all, so please ask Q's. Lagos, Kwanza, Shid all know turbos very well.

It was just a comment... I do not have the funds or the money to even go near trying anything like a 3sgte swap in a car that has an a series engine as i know nothing will bolt up at all... It is nothing i ever planned to do or will ever try since i dont have any need or want to do it... as i said it was just a comment on the price of a single turbo being so expensive. I am not somoene to turbo my car and not know about upgrading my fuel pump and injectors and about how much boost i can run. I know i am running stock internals and wont dear go above 8-10psi from what i have read about the rods on the 7afe. I am doing nothing more than what nik has done to his car and i dont plan to push this or any engine for that matter to its stock internals limits.

Well I wasnt talking of a 5s head, im talking of the 7afe, im quite aware of what I am doing and thats why im not going to be actually bolting anything on until april when all of my fuel management is done and everything is all worked on and preped for more airflow and compression, ive worked with my grandfather on turbo'd cars many times and I've learned a lot of what I can and can not do from him. Other than that I've also learned a lot of what i can and can not do from this site. thanks to Nik's great how to, it just makes it that much easier. I've also got a friend who knows everything about this and hes willing to help me, he dropped a SR20DET into his nissan pickup and hes pushing 700hp at the crank, and he did all the work himself (if you don't believe me i have pics, its a sick truck >biggrin.gif> ) , so i have all the help i need so kindly dont make judgement calls and say your "holding back" on this thread, if you have something to say, then say it, if its worthless info than kindly leave it be. People are here to learn not be bashed.

Anyways back to the subject, I here by naming sunday as the suckiest day of the weekon account that nothing ships or processes, so here i wait.......... >rolleyes.gif>

UPDATE: Just sealed a deal with a fellow 6gc'er and im buying a remanufactured head, with everything new, for 220$ firm. Once I get it, its going strait to my man down the road for a port and polish with 3-angle valve-job.

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte
the closest dyno is....well.....unknown, prolly a couple hundred miles away, the only dyno around is an engine dyno where they'd need to take it out, sooooo ill see what i can do, other than that ill just post slips when i race it down in southern Maine........god i love Maine >frown.gif>

I thought you were on a 5s, my bad. But you said you worked on turbos forever and that lead me to believe you knew a good deal about it. Then you stated you read the how to and learn so much. If you really knew what you were doing, you wouldn't need to learn much from the how to, other then the obvious locating/where to install parts/what to torque stuff too/ect.

But hey your friend has a sr20 in a truck that makes 700hp....neat. I would like to know his setup. And why a truck. But son, don't brag about a sr20 swap you've been apart of. I've been apart of an sr20 swap, t3/t4 upgrade for that s13, 2 H22 swaps now, too many b18c rebuilds, and an lt1 being built to 900hp. But hey what do I know, my car club is only the fastest club in Indiana. I've only spent 2 years in school for auto. I'll just go to my corner

All i said was that his How Too was making it that much easier, i didnt mean i myself learned a TON from it, I meant in general its been made easier to everyone due to his post. Thanks for letting me know im new to the board by the way, anyways yeah im glad to know ur blah blah blah fastest in indiana , if u want to see the setup of yes, his truck, not a car, his preference, ill post some pics, hes a part of Injutu Racing and luckily a part of my group which prolly isnt the fastest in maine, but i don't care really... but its prolly close.... maybe im slowing it down a bit thats why im turbo-ing, anyways just sealed a deal on some rims at the end of this month, dunno what it has to do with the turbo project, but theyre 18"s and they look saweet.

now im going to look into injectors, looking at Venom or RC Engineering 550cc injectors. The search continues.

clip on spinners all the way. This way when you line up to another car they will laugh. Then when you burn them it will be a whole lot sweeter.

I am pretty sure for what your stock internals can handle, that the stock injectors would be plenty good for the job especially if ur not going above 8-10psi of boost. I just think so but i may be wrong.
