Got GT4 tonight - 6G Celicas Forums

I really am supprised at how different it is from GT3. First off, there are tons of menus to navigate through, and i much prefer the GT3 setup. The graphics are better, and the cars drive much differently than from what GT3 was. The sense of speed is now fully intact, and people who were great at driving in GT3 will have to relearn how to drive... the first car i drove around in was a 91 GT-Four RC on laguna seca, and it was not as easy as i thought it would be. i havent checked out b-spec mode yet, or the photography mode, so i cant comment on them yet. Overall, I feel a little overwhelmed by the sheer size of this game right now to be honest. So far i dont have any real complaints, but i have the feeling that this will be a game where you have to practice even more than what you had to do in GT3. So yeah, not dissapointed (yet), but not exactly crapping my pants with excitement...

would you say its one of those games to go out and buy a ps2 if you dont have one kinda games? Theres such a hipe about it, and I love car games, and havnt had a good one in awhile. soo. I was thinking about going out and buying a ps2 an the game but thats going to be $200 >rolleyes.gif>
Awesome! Its good to hear about the sense of speed, that was my only big complaint about gt3 and the huge reduction in cars from gt2.

So all those lists we saw of hundreds of cars, is it tru? are they all there? Can you buy all the new models like in gt2 and then go to the used section for the classics?

Tim
I dunno about buying a PS2 for this game, yet anyways... Remember that ive only played it for about an hour... Anyways, yes there are TONS of cars... So far, for JUST celicas Ive found a 1970 1600GT, 1986 GT-R, 1991 GT-R 4WS, 1991 GT-Four RC, a 1997 ss-II, and 2000 SS-II TRD tuned... Plus the ST185 and 205 rally cars, and im sure there are more >smile.gif> And like I said the sense of speed is now there, when you go too fast into corners the cars feel darty and very uncontrollable... its a new challenge....

I've been playing it all night too. There are MILLIONS of cars, but the ****ty thing is, you have to wade through THREE seperate used car lots- whose inventory changes- to find them.

Saleeka is right, the new menu setup is beyond useless, makes finding stuff a drag.

Graphics are awesome

Picture mode is beyond cool- turn professional mode on PLEASE, the numbers aren't any more mysteries than the "amateur mode" and I was able to show my roommate how to do depth of field shots in 3 minutes- I spent 45 minutes trying to tell Coom how online >smile.gif>

You can't buy any of our celicas from the Toyota dealer >frown.gif> have to be used.

Saleeka, I'm not having the control issues, maybe its just the cars you're using, or have you turned the driver assists off? my roommate was having issues with those before we turned them way down.
im not having any issues per say with controling the cars, im just saying that GT3 and GT4 dont feel the same, to me... In GT3 if you took a turn too fast the car felt as if it would just slide off the track... Now, if you yank the wheel the car wont just understeer, but you can notice bobbing movements and kind of feel the initial point where the car lets go... i like it >smile.gif>

My take on the game ive been waiting nearly 2 years to puchase:

physics engine is MUCH improved... much more focus is placed on grip angle and weight transfer, feels much more like real driving. Dualshock buttons are MUCH more sensitive, which I like, but will take some getting used to... no doubt a side effect from needing a more sensitive range to make the 900 degree wheel feel more precise.

menus are as mentioned very elaborite, but i love it like this, theres soooooo much more to do and explore, makes it more exciting. I love they reincorperated the used car lots and added onto them.

i love the fact that you can import GT3 B and A licenses and up to 100,000 Credits, gives you a bit of a headstart and means you dont have to fiddle with B and A licenses.

graphics are good... but i was a little disappointed in the clarity of the cones when i was doing figure 8's in the japanese playground lot... im probably just too harsh on graphics now since ive become used to my Hi-Def package with my X-Box >smile.gif>

its nice not every avid GT3 player can jump onto GT4 and be good.... you have to learn the physics curve all over again... and this time its much steeper. After about a half hour of fiddling with the I-B license i really got the hang of it.

overall i give the game an A-, Online feature and dualshock sensitivity adjustment would bump it to a solid A.

sorry it's a bit off topic, but can someone please tell me how I can unlock more cars and tracks in 'Arcade mode?'!

much appreciated >smile.gif>
i just got mine today to. i really like it. in a lot of ways i see it as a tuned version of GT3. better cars, better tracks, better physics, but the grephics are mostly the same (except for a few things here and there).

about a year ago, i bought a ps2 just for gt3 and never regret it. its basically THE car game to own and worth getting a ps2 for.

GT4 is a new breed of racing game... i think GT4 revamp the series as much as GT3 did.... really amazing the differences in the game.

...but is it worth spending an extra 150 for the wheel.... >confused.gif> maybe a good birthday present >smile.gif>

This might be a rental for me, I got maybe 15% of GT3 done and was bored with it, I dont know if I have $50 to spend on a fad of a game, like I did San Andreas, which still sits there, unbeaten.

I bought an SSII, and then a supercharger.. and then the Semi racing intake/exhaust gets better hp than the racing one.. and then I'm still alowed to buy NA tunes, but all they do is rob hp from me, with the sz still on.. and.. it just does flaming burnouts- can't get below a 14 on the 1/4.. and...

I feel really stupid, there went nearly 70,000.
somehow give us pics of your celica. also, what can you do as far as the exterior of the car?

Sometimes we live to beat the odds.-Ryanaim: rkgreen04
you can get rims again, and really big wings... thats all i've found so far... I started out with the 91 prelude Si Vetec and its keeping me going >wink.gif>

Saleeka, did you move 100k over from GT3? We did and got a Subaru Legacy fully modded.

There's not much about the exterior of the car you can mod; we can take pictures directly to the USB card.
i did, but im not using it for some odd reason... I wanted to work up from the bottom I guess. I was glad the A and B licences transferred, however. I hate those challenges sometimes... i dont work tomorrow so from about 10:30 tonight to friday morning i'll be playing it for sure >smile.gif>

HEEYUP

got it last night when my local EB called and said they got the shipment in. played from 7pm till 4 am straight. now im gonna go play it agian, damn its sweet, just wish i could put racing kits on the cars again like in GT1 and 2.

i love how you can buy wings now tho. thats hot.

my RX7 is already rockn 350 at the wheels with full suspension and what not.

though im confused about teh whole: full custom setups then theres the Original??

it says original is better but yet it costs less and on the suspension you cant adjust camber but it says in the description that you can.

Im confused about this.

hows it taste motha f*cka
What's the best/fastest car you guys have so far?

I jsut got the nurburgring skyline (the 63,000cr one) and it's got about 850hp with everything..

it haul's ass

1/4mile in 9.2 sec
Vr4 with stage 4 turbo kit >smile.gif>
this game is sweet. Best buy told me it would'nt come out for another couple weeks, but gamestop had em.

I got this little korean car and won the first rally event and got the cadilac. That car kicks butt! Got a 98 gt4 in the used cars section too.

The thing with the horsepower is that it replaces certain parts, so you can N/A or turbo on certain cars but not both on the same car.
i just bought the game today..............can't wait to play it tomorrow
well ive got my rx7 up to 469hp now and its on stage 2 turbo.

im pissed tho i bought racing tires and the races wont let me use them yet >mad.gif>

hows it taste motha f*cka
is anyone else annoyed with the autosave that cant be disabled or defeated? I used to "test" cars out in GT3 before commiting to them buy reloading if they sucked, but now you cant even play if you dont save the game >mad.gif>

yea, i used to test the cars too. That kinda sucks. But the new b-spec feature lets you make all the money you need for a new one. Just get a good car and let it race for you. I'm in 2nd right now while I am typing this, lol.
have you seen the Jay Leno car? that thing is cool, I wanna race it!
Saleeka, autosave can be mostly disabled.

Huh? You either have forced induction or you dont. N/A is non turbo, so if you buy a turbo car, you cant do an N/A tune, cuz its F/I.

i still have a major beef with the AI's inability to drive like theyre racing... not like they are playing follow the leader... but its still fun and definatly amazing... i think i may have to go get the PS2 high def cables now >frown.gif>

I hate you all until I can get my own copy. >mad.gif>
Btw who ever asked about unlocking cars in arcade, I read that you'll unlock the cars when you start unlocking them in GT mode.
Im not a fan of the steering. I think its pretty crappy, like if you remove the gas, your car doesn't turn..

so you can make money by just watching??
