my boyfriend turbo'd his d16y8.. running 9psi he's almost at 240whp...

D series Vtecs are no joke. If his car has vtec Do I/H/E and put a bottle on the sucker. You'll be running some great numbers on the track.

Tell him running mexican rice with tabasco sauce is the same as 93 octane and a 75 shot, lol. Really though just show him the Ricer Compilation video over and over again until he figures out that a huge wing on a FWD car is mostly for looks and actually decreases the handling due to the downforce being icreased in the rear causing the front end to lift more. He could also just slap a Spoon or Mugen badge on his car and hopes that someone believes him.

I think some of you are missing the point here. Why is it that you are making fun of the Honda for being "rice"? Honda's aren't rice, it's what poeple do to them. There's just a lot more honda's out there. In % ricers, Toyota probably has just as many. And I know there are 6gc ricers, and even 3S ricers. I just want to see the Honda bashing stop. Those are dang good cars. If no one believes me, I'll trade my celica for one, and then put as much money in to it as I have in my celica, and stomp you at the track.

I don't think Hondas in general are rice, IMO rice is just taking any beater and trying to turn it into a race car by throwing a trash can under the bumper and putting this huge wing on it (who needs a 4 inch exhaust on a N/A motor), plus a Civic would need a pretty nice suspension to hang with a Celica on a track, (circuit). I think Civics are bashed because they aren't even sports cars, S2000 is a sports car, a Civic is a poor college kid car and that is why they became so common, take the same year Celica GT and Civic EX and you will almost always pay more for the Celica since it's a sports car. Plus for some reason our government decided to pick on Toyota when importing them into America (i.e. lack of the 3S, stop selling the Supra). I know Honda makes the Si but it's just a Civic with a little better motor in it, i'll still run with a stock one doesn't matter what year, that 160 hp is way over rated.

Are you actually going to call the american celica a sports car? I think if it's a sports car it shouldn't get outrun by almost everything on the road. And I'm not talking about my personal driving skills, I'm talking about the numbers. Unless you go for the 3S swap, or do a turbo, you have nothing. I don't care if the car does handle well. I have a 94 GT with the sports supension package, and I must admit it does handle very nice, but handling will only get you so far.

normally i would agree on this, however, i just heard from a friend of my who competed in an autox near his school(penn state) that the fast car on the track that day was a fwd car...im not sure what make and modle, but i do know it beat out a hand full 240sx's...really it depends on the driver...a fwd car can be just as good of a car if it's built right and the driver knows what he/she is doing...jus my two cents, but then again opinions are like assholes, everyone's got them and they all stink >>

I completely agree. The Celica isn't a sports car. Its a sporty compact. And run for run (as used in an example eariler) a stock Celica GT and a stock Civic EX are about equal in speed. Celica out handles, Civic out gas-pumps. And please understand that the Celica isn't a UBER-performer on the track stock. Yes it handles nice, but its no Evo. Now, you can boast about handling if you have a Mazda, but just take the good with this car. And the honda D16=bad people. OMG. Wake up buddies. The D16 is 10 times the engine the 5S wants to be. I have to agree that the ignorant "hondas suck" response is childlike in so many ways. And I dont even like Hondas!!!!

And to reinstate my thought - which of the two cars is still being made?

hey dMc, why dont we just put my 4agze celica on the line with my d16 civic. You can drive which ever one you want. See which one out performs, and which motor im willing to blow. While were at it, lets put a bottle in the civic. That way, i can blow the motor and do a H22 turbo swap. But that will be after i transplant an eclipse gst motor into the laser.

dont the vtec d16's only have like 130hp at the crank?

that makes for like 110hp at the wheels.

i dont see how any turbo that a SOHC 1.6l engine could spool would make for a 130WHP gain at only 9psi

i might be able to belive 240 crank hp at 9psi, if it had a great tune
