So we have 6 people now, or 5? Lets get more! Come on guys this is a rare opportunity and you wont have to put up with the BS fitting of aftermarket body kits!
We have 6. This should help marginally with pricing as the initial cost of the skirts will be spread out over 6 people not 5. I will talk with Romas.

Guys, I haven't wired the money yet. I am still waiting for a return email from the vendor. I want to make sure that he knows the money is coming from me when the wire is sent. I emailed him Monday and haven't heard from him so I don't want to just wire money across the ocean until I know he knows its coming.

Update: Guys I have emailed the vendor 3 times since last Monday with no response. I don't know what is going on but I will keep trying.

The vendor emailed me back today. He is working hard at getting the VAT form eventhough I told him I was willing to forgo the refund. I want to be a little patient to see if we can save this money. Romas, the VAT tax is only charged if the skirts are not airshipped to a non-EC country. As I understand it, it has to be charged when your friend picks up the skirts. If there is another way to get the skirts without the VAT tax, I would be very interested.

Basicly UK and Lithuania are both Europe Union members - this means NO TAX for IMPORT/EXPORT stuff.

If my friend gets them - he will not be charged any VAT tax and etc.. Basicly if you gonna get them, yea you would save a bit of money, but i do think if my friend vent directly to them and asked for the skirts he might get a price witch would be even better cuz he could atleast trade on them biggrin.gif

But this way there would be no VAT refund - expect if my friend would talk them up selling them without VAT (this can be done, cuz he is idividual person and if he doesnt need any form of payment papers - in reality they could sell them cheaper..)

I will just ask my friend to go to them and talk about all the shiznit, and see what i can do in this place.

Romas, I don't really understand what you are saying.

Here is what I have been told:
(1) there is no VAT tax charged if the vendor ships the product to a non-EC country.
(2) if someone buys goods in a EC country for use in another EC country, 17.5% VAT tax is automatically added.
(3) The VAT tax can be refunded if the goods are taken out of the EC country. Form 407 is used when someone drives across the border into a non-EC country and form C88 is used when the product is shipped out to a non-EC country.

With that said, why wouldn't your friend be charged the VAT tax if he picks the skirts up?
Why would I get a better price than your friend?
When you say that he could "at least trade with him" do you mean negotiate a different price?

If your friend can buy these without a VAT tax, lets do that. It would be a hell of a lot easier and we can get this group buy going.

Please explain.

1/2/3 Yea i know all tis, and i know the price would be WITH VAT included.

You would get a better price only if you could eliminate VAT

Then i said Trade - i mean neagotiate wink.gif And sometimes, then buying stuff as PERSON not a COMPANY you can try and avoid VAT (seller can do this, if he is not sceard by laws and etc....)

Will ask today about all the stuff, and let ya know.

Romas:

By all means, have your friend call and see what kind of deal he can get. In the mean time, I will continue to work on getting this VAT thing sorted out. If its not sorted out by thanksgiving, I am inclined to just pay the extra money.

I have promised people in this group buy that I will do my best to keep this group buy moving. That takes some team work from everyone: Me for running the group buy, the vendor for getting the VAT return form and skirts, the buyers for getting the rest of their money to us, Romas' friend for picking them up and delivering to Romas, Romas for production and mailing, and me again for mailing out to everyone. LETS NOT HAVE A VIS-LIKE FIASCO HERE FOLKS.

I talked with him, explained everything - he will see what he can do. But he is working 7am-7pm so not much time for him, as i said he will might just go to them at weekend. And yes, you should continue working on this.

5 days, 3 emails, no response from the Vendor. People suck. I am never being involved in a group buy again. I am just going to pay for the fricken parts and put them on the car.

Well we have to see what Romas can do. You have to expect some difficulty when ordering custom parts.

Guys, here is the situation:

The London supplier is not responding to me anymore. One of two things happened. He is either frustrated with the VAT tax refund issue or he knows that we are planning on duplicating his skirts and does not want to do business anymore. I have told him on two occassions that I am prepared to buy the skirts without the VAT tax refund and he ignores me for several days and several emails and then I get a brief message from him that says something like "waiting on refund form". I have been reluctant to send him money including the VAT tax because he simply has not engaged me through email regarding my intent to forgo the VAT tax refund and obtain the skirts. His behavior has been quite peculiar.

Last night I got an email from Chris C who indicated that he could supply the skirts for the Group buy at a cost of $400 shipped. This is a savings of approximately $65 per set over the price if we use the London supplier. The bonus is that these would be delivered directly to your door from Chris which is appealing to me because I think I estimated low on the shipping from my house to you guys. This way, I couldn't get burned. On the price, Romas originally gave me a $50 range on the per-set price. I quoted prices to you based on the higher figure to be safe. He was aware of this fact but I have not asked Romas whether we could utilize the low end of the range he quoted to save the money. He originally indicated that he wanted to see how close the skirts to being perfect and how the production process went which makes a lot of sense to me.

Romas has offered to have his friend pay for and pick up the skirts so that we would not have to deal with the London supplier. I am not sure whether his friend will be successful in this endeavor or not. If the supplier is purposefully not selling the skirts to us to avoid copies being made, there is a chance that he might be unsuccessful in his purchase. This is pure speculation.

I feel loyalty to Romas because we were only able to start this process as a result of his willingness to make these skirts in the first place. However, I am not the only one in this group buy and don't feel like I should make this decision on behalf of everyone. So, here is the question I would like each of you to answer.

Should we:

(1) go as originally planned and wait for the VAT tax refund. ($435) This assumes no clear communication between me and the London vendor as he has refused to have a meaningful email correspondence with me.
(2) go as originally planned and not wait for the VAT tax refund. ($465)
(3) give the money for the skirts to Romas' friend so that he can go buy them privately. ($465)
(4) Purchase the skirts from Chris C ($400)
(5) Other option?

My recommendation is to stay with the original plan and go with London supplier and Romas provided his friend is able to get the skirts in a reasonable time.

For the people in this group buy, please give me your input.

Well the other factor here is time. I seem to believe that Chris C will be able to deliver these very very fast. I have ordered front and rear extensions from him and they were delivered in a week. There will be no question of quality either here.

I have to say go with Chris C, for more reasons than just cost.
