im not the smartest guy here but im guessing the engine in that mr2 is a 5sfe... im trying to think of another 2.2 4cyl engine and it wont come to mind at this point... you're looking to put in a new 5sfe?
yeah its a stock 5sfe but they make a 3SGTE twin turbo or someting close to that.
ok, now im confused. so you know the engine in the mr2 is a stock 5sfe? or youre telling me the one in your celi is a 5sfe? well im assuming the engine in your gt is a 5sfe(2.2L), and every 3s-gte ive seen is a 2.0L engine. never heard of a factory 3s-gte twin turbo. sry if im not helping, im just kinda confused.
it should be the same thing because 5sfe also comes in the camry's too...i don't think you'll have a problem with the 5sfe swap as long as your celi is a gt because my mom's 94 camry died and my dad went and got a 5sfe engine(don't know if it's celi, mr2, or camry) from the junk yard and put it in without doing any paper work... biggrin.gif ...you might have some problems with the harness and intake tube though...unless you use your old ones... biggrin.gif

sorry yeah it says that ^ twin entry turbo not realy sure what the difference is and yes mine is a gt
well yall do know that mr2's came with a 3sfe as well!!!!!!!
any 90+ mr2 will come with a normal 2.2l 5sfe, same as the celica one.
the turbo 90+ came with a 2.0l 3sgte.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
Well considering there both OBD1, basicly all you have todo is change the power steering and alternator brackets to stock celica's and your set.

DTE

I am a thief.do not buy anything from me.
ma buddy's mr2 came with a 3sfe stock from the dealer its a 91i believe
so did any come stock w/ a turbo ?

Is there a reason why you're swapping?

^x2... i dont get it... its the same engine... u just want one with less mileage or what? still confused.

I'm wondering this too? 2.2 Celica, for 2.2 MR2? There are no gains what so ever. It's just a different 2.2 5sfe. As long as it's OBD1, which it is. If it's because it's less miles, then that's a reason, but not that good of one. I have 143k on my 5sfe, and all I need to do is put a new disstributer and plug wires on it soon. Same thing you'll have to do with a 40k motor in a bit. Are you planning on putting a turbo on a low milage 5sfe? No one is ever happy with there 5sfe turbo for every long. It's a baby set on the performance ladder. Don't get me wrong, those turbo 5sfe could smoke me in a line.

yeah mine has 165,000 on it and the shop says it $800 to fix, oil pump really bad oil leak and timing belt is still the stock one. when i can buy the new motor for $875 and do upgrades later and maybe a turbo by the end of the summer

anyone interested in the celi motor for after the swap??

or does anyone know if junk yards will buy the engine from me? thanks! biggrin.gif
yeah, i think soulshadow wanted to buy one. check him out on the buying/selling section. im sure the junky will buy it but they'll give u next to nothing for it.
I would only do this if the MR2 engine was free. I certainly hope you're not paying for it, otherwise you may as well just buy a clip with a 3SGTE and have someone swap it into your car for you. Good luck!

^^I don't share this guy's opinion. 3sgte is going to cost way more and be a lot more work. I'd also say to keep you motor for parts. Because you aren't going to get any money out of it hardly at all, but I'm sure there's still some good stuff on it. Bottem line, it'll be worth more for you to keep it, than sell it.

who are you paying to swap the engine? bc I would say if you have the know-how to do that yourself, you might as well just fix the one you have and save the money. It'll cost you even more than the $875 to swap the engine.
