Finally got my Tein Coilovers.

The quality of this product is just outstanding even more then I enticipated. A Celica Club member couldn't stop saying he wanted to lick them :S .
Cant wait to put them on but gonna wait untill my spacers arrive so i dont need to jack up the car twice. Plus i have to figure out the total installation of the EDFC.

Electronic Damping Force Controller

yes cutrara is almost right. it's "dampening".
there would be some electronics mounted on top of the struts that are wired to an electronic controller to adjust suspension settings from inside the car. but of course, they are at an extra cost.
and btw Kadett, nice buy! when i upgrade my sport suspension, TEIN coilovers will be the first to pop up as my choice.

EDFC = Electronic Damping Force Controller. Like cutrura said.

Here are the motors that are gonna be placed on the suspension


And here is the control unit. Still deciding if I should paint it black or not. To match the interior. But my HKS Turbo Timer will also be silver. So have to decide.


Why not install it right away. Well i want to do everything at once. Gonna get my 15mm spacers next week and I'm to lazy to jack my car up twice

But installing the EDFC is a bit time consuming since the wire have to be routed through the entire car.

I honestly dont know. You need about 6 cm of clearance above the struts so that the EDFC motors can be properly mounted. Thats why you have to cut away the insulator from the stock hood or get a GT4 hood.

Cant wait to see it all setup, Its the setup that I want, but cant afford.

In that picture of the EDFC controller, is the battery there for size reference only? Cause wouldn't that suck if you had to replace a battery.

LOL, yeah its only for reference for size (just need a power line from battery). Its about 1/4 DIN size. It fits right into the hole beneath the CD player slot. You guys in the US have a CD storage room there or something like that. We have 2 1/4 din size spaces there. Looks like toyota made that on purpose. 1 for the HKS Turbotimer and 1 for the EDFC

What do you mean by mounting. Its taking the motor and turning it onto the strut. Thats all. Well not exactly you get some extra parts with the EDFC and a good English manual, thank god for that because the Coilover manual was completly in Japanese

You're going to love those things when they're installed. It'll make it feel like a totally different car, and will REALLY compliment your motor perfectly.....I only wish that I could I could enjoy the balance of a tightly tuned suspension and a strong N/A motor together.

Also which EDFC motors did you buy to fit to the struts?

About the EDFC

The ones suited for the suspension. If you look at the product listing on www.tein.co.uk the EDFC number is mentioned. When you look for the same product but on the US website there is no number.

Because this set (Coilovers) is made for the ST202 and in the US version has a different part number.

EDKV1/3 - 12140 is the EDFC package number. M12-M14

Thanks Kadett. I think I read that you were going 3SGTE, but thats not a bad move at all. I would still love to get my hands on some nice N/A power, but thats hard to do for our cars in the US unfortunately.

I wasn't aware that the edfc would work with the SS - I thought the flex was required?

I was thinking the same thing, but Tein sells different versions of the SS around the world. Maybe it has something to do with that.

so here in the US with the 5sfe motor tein doesn't offer us a part number for our cars. but the edfc can be installed in our cars then right???? i want pillow ball mounts dangit.

Unless your ST202 is equiped with the SuperStrut suspension I can't think of any reason these can't be used on the ST204.

Mind if I ask where you bought your coilovers and how much you paid for the whole package (EDFC included please)

Teins are Installed. WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!
It took my and a fellow 6gc owner about 3 hours to do the job. Bolts were very nasty took quite some strenght to get them off. But i managed it without any bolt or tools braking. But the overall job was pretty easy to do. Even on the stock delivered settings of the Teins I again lowered by about 2-2,5cm

But on the downside. I also replaced my spark plugs for the 3s-ge. During the process of remove the sparkcap+wire (dont know english word for is) the inner core of the cap was broken and because of it the sparkplug cant ignite. Just have to wait for a new sparkplug cable, will have it in on Thuesday.

So i still cant drive the thing.

About the coilovers.
The guy the helped me out wanted to have my old dampers+springs. Sure i said but i was afraid it would not fit his car because he has an ST. Well to my big suprise the mounting points for the 2 big bolts, brakeline, endlink and strut points are COMPLETLY IDENTICAL!!!!!! So after replacing my dampers for teins they went straight to his car. About 2,5 hours to install. Pretty fast to replace 8 dampers just under 6 hours.

To anyone that wants to get the EDFC on there US Coilovers:
Its just a matter of the size of the motors.
Because some EDFC compatible coilovers need a 10mm size hole the will go over the spring. But there are also 12 and 14mm size holes for the motors.

For me its 14mm in the front and 12 mm in the back. So the compatible matched EDFC part number is: EDKV3-12140

Here a Photo with my car finished, just had done the front swap of the ST and began on the back. Another 6gc of the Dutch Celica forum came by to see the process.

Nope it the settings Tein delivers them on. It should be around 40-45 mm drop. It can go all the way down to about 70 mm drop. So if i would i got get the Tires within the wheelwells. But I like the fact that the Space between well and tire are exaclty the same as the sidewall of the tire itself

why did tein go green, of all sweet colors to choose from and make a car look sick they pick green.

from picture # 3 it looks identical to the US version except for the top mount -- hmm - makes me wonder -- wish you had a full picture of the entire strut - front and rear for me to compare -
