I cant wait to see the finished product. Yellow is always a nice color for cars
>>Day Nine>>

Day nine was tons of work, but I got a lot done. I sanded down my front extensions, sideskirts, and rear spoiler pieces since they were painted, and then I shot some parts.

Attached Image

For the most part, things went well. You can see most of the parts above.

Attached Image

I put too much paint on and got a run on the corner of the front bumper though. You can also see some orange peel.

Attached Image

The trunk lid had quite a bit of orange peel. Flat surfaces are hard for me to shoot. kindasad.gif

You can see the sideskirt in some detail above. They turned out well.

The mirrors turned out well too.

Jfrost, I used a different sort of paint together with more thinner.

Rayme, I'm using a synthetic enamel single stage paint.

>>Day Ten>>

Today I painted the last of the parts off of the car. Again, I had trouble with the pieces with large horizontal surfaces getting lots of orange peel. kindasad.gif

Attached Image

In the photo above, you can kind of see the orange peel.

Attached Image

In this one, you can see it in closer detail.

Attached Image

The vertical pieces, like the spoiler posts and center section, came out well though.

Maybe you should just hang your hood so you paint it when it is vertical. Then all the "paint fog" will fall on floor, not on the hood. Just an idea.

Looking good coom. I suggest some OEM front splitters. Good luck the rest of the way....

QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
>>Day Eleven>>

Today was tons of work. I first cut out some walls in my makeshift paint booth so that the garage door could open to get the Celica in. Then it had to be extended so that it was wider inside.

Once that was done, I did some final cleaning and masked the car.

Then I finally shot the car.

It came out ok. There's some orange peel and tiger striping on the roof that will need to be cut and buffed. But I'm finally done painting! biggrin.gif

Jaws4God, yes, I'm putting on a TRD replica wing. smile.gif

jgreening, I've already got some OEM front splitters. You can see one in the background in the first picture of day ten. smile.gif

The only other car I've shot with a gun was my old '88 Celica GT, but that was flat black. So this is the first project where I've painted anything a gloss color with a gun. I've painted lots of stuff with rattle cans and read a lot though.

New Toyota project coming soon...
wow looks great! can't wait to see the finished product!
Great Job!

cant wait to see the final product
Great work Chris! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

I'm aiming to start my project this August, next month. After a lot of research and watching you do the same, I think I'm ready to give it a try also.

BTW, did you use stuff from Rayflex, Coomer? I've been reading nothing but good stuff about it, just wondering if thats what you used and what your experiences were with it.

awesome, great work coomer
I'm amazed. Thats just awesome how you can now do every thing involved with working on cars !

I will return one day.
>>Day Twelve>>

Day twelve consisted of putting the car partially back together so I could drive it up to my apt. and work on sanding it up there so that it can be buffed next weekend.

I'll leave you guys with one picture. The car looks worse in person up close, but it won't for long and should look awesome once buffed. smile.gif

Silver94CelicaOwner, I'm not using the Rayflex paint. I've heard that their support sucks and I read a story about someone who couldn't shoot the stuff using their ratios and have it look good. He had to experiment and use his own mixtures to get it to work suitably.

Kadett, I think I've paid about $250-300 total for all my supplies, paint, etc. smile.gif

New Toyota project coming soon...
OMG... it looks soo awesome coom! and it's not even buffed yet? holy crap - great work...and great quality! and great savings over payin some Dipsh*** 2000+ just to have crappy spots in the paint (random rant) ... but NICE biggrin.gif
looks awesome. when are you gonna get the extensions and spoiler on it?
