get better rods and pistons, and the whole rotating assembly balanced, then some more agressive cams, and make it an NA 5S-GE. 2.2L of high revving power, but i bet you could still keep alot of your low end with the right cams.

Then another part of me says, please dont upgrade, dont go wasting any more motors or engines. Get a cheap 5sfe and throw it in there if your just going to be racing your friends and what not.

"get an economy engine if you want to race and a performance engine if you just want something to look at"
that makes sense..... tongue.gif

...my meaning wasnt to get an economy engine if you wanted to race. It was get an economy motor if your just going to mess it up, and get a nice engine if your going to take care of it.

Way to totally misunderstand me smart guy.

I am now a part of the ihavemorethen16gc club!
pics of damage yet?

Not quite... feel free to do a search. I've covered it in some detail a LOT of times...

Kwanza is right. The 5sfe or 5sge will never be high reving great NA motors. I like mine for it's torque. It's good for autocrossing. You wouldn't expect to see a TDI Jetta on the drag strip or cranking high revs, but they do nice we're they are. I know the 5sfe is limited. I have no delusions about awsome NA power. It's just a toy. A fun little car to play with, but it won't be a serious racer because of the bottem end, and top. I think the limits of it as a turbo motor have not come close to being maxed yet. But in NA form, it's fun, but it's not your typical high rev NA motor. It is what I'm use to now, and it works great for what I want to use it as.

Update, I've got everything back together now. Car isn't running as well. Feels like it just doesn't have the kick anymore. Motor is now showing it's age. I think I've lost compression and I'm leaking a good bit of oil now. A good bit to me might not be as much as a good bit to a DSM, but it's still more than it did. I've been talking to Dr Tweak about the motor swap. Dad seems up for it 1/2 the time. He's an old racer himself, and he keeps flip flopping between friend and parent.

about the sr20, on the strip, these arent really that great of an engine for a 240 to be fast in a line, the rb series swap would be a lot more effecient... 240s with a red top sr20 swap, fairly stock would run mid to high 14's, no very exciting... so it doesnt surprise me... good luck on getting your car running again... becareful on those shifts

you could have bent something a little with those obscene rpms. run a compression test.

I did two mis shifts in Denver this weekend. 3-2 @ 86MPH. I buried the tach each time and cursed.
