How Much Horsepower do ya think - 6G Celicas Forums
at the crank? 130-145. at the wheels.....110-120.

haha... and Bitter takes the cake ( my opinion +1) ... maybe even less
with all the crap i've done listed in my sig, i'd be lucky for 120-125 crank...on a good day with a cold tail wind and some magic fairy dust. once that goes through my transmission, 85-90whp is still pretty optimistic. but its not always about making more power, sometimes its about changing where the power is. i fee like i've gone from power at only low rpms to having a nice broad powerband from about 2500-5500 rpm. all through there i feel pull now where before i only felt pull from 2000-3000.

I dont understand cuz on edmunds.com it says that the hp rating is 130 and torque is 145ft/lb
i bet u have like.... 118hp to the wheels. dont just add up the aftermarket horsepower claims. it will never work like that.

that is at the fly wheel ,on a healthy engine you lose some where around 15 percent to the wheels

if you dont have a dyno....do what other tuners do here...u take your base claimed hp and minus by 20..thas your REAL hp figures (approx.)...thas where all the power is going to..your wheels!!.....if u jsu took your motor out and run it...yes itll ahve the full 125-135 hp figures....
the mods u have done may increase hp but dont think itll make a world of change......just my humble opinion

not even close, not even at the flywheel.
the edmonds rating you are refering to is @ the flywheel.
this is what a healthy, 98 5sfe makes @ the wheels, WITH an injen short ram with heatshield.
exhaust is maybe +5, if your lucky, the plugs and wires = 0.

ok
... more info on why platinum +4's are bad for 5s-fe's please!
as i remember someone tellling me that the bosch platinum runs too hot in our cars and will possibly break while in teh engine causing a ****load of work. but im pretty sure that there is a more complicated reasond why.......

use the recomended ones. my dad threw some crap bosch in our minivan and that crap died on us in the middle of the street.. its not fun changing plugs in a mid engine minivan =[
i think that the recommneded plugs in the toyota book are NKG iridium plugs.. those babys are not cheap by any means. I could be wrong here though. I cant remember what it said when i looked at it last. Someone correct me if im wrong.
Use NGK Copper plugs...cheap and good for you
stick it on as a tail pipe!

I've got a none Cali spec GT, and I'm guessing something like 150-155 at the crank with what I have. Don't let these guys destroy your desire to mod your car. There are things you can do to actually get hp. But remember, it's not all about hp. Unless your drag racing your car, and even then, there are so many other variables that need to be taken into consideration. I may only be 15 to 20hp over stock, but I will run much quicker times due to the throttle response and handling characteristics.
A lot of people think it's just hilarious to see "noobs" come around trying to build there NA 4 bangers. What I think is funny is someone dumping 6 grand on a new motor or turbo set up, running some 200+ hp and losing to that NA car at the track because he/she out shifts and drives the turbo car. Does that mean if I had the money I wouldn't swap or turbo? No, it does not. And I know even if I did I would get walked on at the track by skilled drivers in almost stock ST Celica's and the dreaded D16 Civics. My point is, hp isn't all its made out to be.

I have been beaten at a friends place, they have a 1/2 mile paved driveway, with a old chevy truck. I missed second and the RPM dropped and then I did a 3-2 shift that buried the needle and caused me to almost crap myself. Poor car.

for the record i am not bashing this thread in any means. I myself have done basically all of those same mods on my automatic celi.
More or less my comments have been aimed as a joke towards people with lots of stickers and none of those parts actually in there cars.. (<not bashing the nos air freshner
, but more or less the civics that used to roll into my highschool every morning)
But i do agree on the comment about throttle response and such. Hence the reason i spend a lot of money and time on things like poly motor mounts, brass shift bushings etc. (actually didnt cost much at all lol)

well, i have a 94 GT non-cali spec and i have OBX 4-1 headers, full custom CAI and full custom exhaust, new clutch and also about 10 degrees advance timing, now granted my car has 200k on the original engine, i dynoed at 119 to the wheels, so im prob sittin at about stock power at the crank, like 135 crank....just my experience. So 150-155 crank is maybe a bit presumtuous, but i coul be wrong.

what did it cost you to run it on a dyno?
once my swap is in i want to get a baseline so i can compare it as i install parts etc.

wow thats a lot cheaper than i thought it would be, once i have some different systems installed im sure the tune part will come in handy
but just a straight dyno run for 35 seems like something i wouldnt mind doing relativly often (especially after big upgrades, like full 3 in exhaust, etc.)

Now i feel like hittin the dyno soon. I wanna c what my car is hittin at the wheels.
But back to the whole higher HP doesnt mean faster car argument, HP isnt every thing, and like Bigmean said, you can have a low HP D15 civic, that if driven properly, can beat a fully tuned STI on a track. Around here theres some nice twisty roads that you can hit a pretty good speed on. I can take most of the corners duing around 80KM/H and get from the set of lights near here to the parking lot in about 20seconds..one of the guys in my class has a turboed MX3 and is making around 160whp at 14PSI, he can do the section in 32 seconds. Its all about the driver, not the car or HP.
