I admit it - 6G Celicas Forums

So, I went to the norcal JDM theory meet. I was one of 2 6gcs there, but if anyone goes on any other car forums, particularly evo forums, you'll probably hear about some "dumbass ricer in a celica"

coming off the freeway onramp only a matter of blocks away, I was trying to keep up with the EVO in front of me who was going pretty damn fast. well, somewhere around 60-70 mph on this 35mph offramp my car car lost traction and I started sliding FF drift style. now, all of a sudden the weight transfer throws my car in the total opposite direction, the car jumps over a curb, and according to my friend driving behind me, all four wheels were over a foot of the ground at one point. I flew over the small dirt embankment (a good 3ft drop.) and was now going the wrong way on a one way onramp... lucky for me there were no other cars coming that direction. anyway, I pulled over in a parking lot to examine the damage. honestly, there is some scratches on my front bumper, and the center crossmember is pretty scratched, other than that, no damage. I was EXTREMELY lucky. I was also the laughing stock of the entire show. but I'm alive, and my car is alive. and I think I'm going to start driving more careful now.

the end. go ahead. criticize me, I deserve it.

unless i was pushing over 200 hp i wouldn't even think of running with an evo
tell me you didnt show up to the meet after that?
ya that stinks, but im glad it didnt turn out to bad.
Its fun to pretend.

But dont pretend your cars fast.

yeah, I went to the meet after that... where the guy in the evo I was following just laughed at me, then went on to tell other people, and it spread like wildfire and everyone there was talking about it and I just overheard bits and pieces like "dumbass ricer in a celica..." I didn't stay long though. there wasn't much interesting to see. just a bunch of S2000s and 7th gen celicas mostly.

oh, and for the record I wasn't trying to race the evo, he was just driving pretty fast but not flooring it, so I tried to catch up (by flooring it...) If I had AWD like him, I probably wouldn't have had such a sudden loss of traction like I did.

100 % agree with you on that, that's why I don't race anything
you're trying to go 60-70 on a 35mph exit with stock suspension?
man that sucks.. i would of been way too embarrassed to go to the meet afterwards

as long as you learned from the experience you shouldn't be too hard on yourself... you did get really lucky though that you didn't get yourself or someone else hurt

THE STUFFS FOR SALE!
lol, stuff like this happens bro, and yeah, you need to be thanking wahtever god you pray to, lol.....anywho, like airfron said, as long as you learn from it, dont worry too much about it....

(\__/)(='.'=) This is bunny. Copy and paste bunny into your(")_(") signature to help him gain world domination.
Sorry i laughed, just thinkin about a persons reaction when a cars off the ground going into a ditch makes me laugh.
yeah.. we all do dumb things.. but what's important, like everyone said, is that you learn from it.
i was a 'ricer' at one point and i tried going through a small S-curve with my old car leading out of the freeway.... in the snow.
i managed to do it going 70kms with my 4th gen when it's only a 40km/h exit before but i tried it again another day and i did the first curve no problem but then i was too much at an angle that i couldn't countersteer enough to do the second.. i was a going outside off the desired line and ran up the snowbank from the front tire only and back down on the road.. checked to see if there were any damages and luckily, there was none.. i learned from my mistake...

... now i only go 60 kms... lol. j/k

but I thought the cool grooves in my *unpainted* VIS bullet fenders were for that!

yes, I admit my car looks hella rice right now. but, I just got a call tonight that the rest of my bodykit is in, probably picking it up tomorrow, then it'll be off for paint real soon. I'm just so glad that I decided NOT to put my JDM front extensions on before the meet (which I almost did) because they would probably be toast by now...

anyway, yeah, my friend driving behind me said I was going 60-70, but now that I really think back, I think I was in second gear at around 5500 RPMs when I lost traction... so probably closer to 40-45 mph. and I really don't know what the speed limit was on that offramp, for all I know it was 25mph, it was fairly sharp. I think the problem was I was still accellerating into the turn. but it's really not that I lost traction that threw me over, it was that after losing traction the car jerks REALLY sharp in the opposite direction afterwards... I dunno if it's cause I try to countersteer or what (I don't really remember what I tried to do) I think I need some FF driving lessons...

your suspension is completely stock, and you have zero dollars invested in decent rubber/wheels on your car. you're trying to act fast & furious in a sporty grocery getter, you may as well have been in a ford tempo.

take a look at this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_wheel_d...ont_wheel_drive

there are too many disadvantages to using FWD as a platform for racing. it isn't designed for it.

keep in mind that car manufacturers designed front wheel drive for one reason - cost. you have been lulled in to a false sense of security because you THINK your car handles great, when in fact, it handles like **** in comparison to any rwd/awd car. people on here believe that the 6th gens are gods gift to ultimate handling, and they're completely wrong. they're always going to handle like ****, because they're FWD cars.

drive safe, if a cop catches you doing this ****, or you hurt someone, you'll wish you drove like a grandma. take it from someone who is currently riding on 3 tickets, it isn't fun.

If you're at those sort of RPM's in second gear going around a sharp corner, its going to break loose, period. All that happened was massive ammounts of understeer since your front wheels were trying to plant the power to the ground and handle the corner all at once......not going to happen, the car will just lose control.

At least you learned your lesson though, discretion should always be used while driving and fortunately you and your car are both safe. Just don't drive like that again and you won't need any lessons. haha.

I'm glad nothing too bad happened to your car, and that you're OK.

Going 70 on a 35 ramp is really pushing it...

i dont want to arguee with you but at a controled event that me and my friend went to i was able to out corner his porche 944 ,all though he was stock and i was modded ,i was able to run a better lap then him but it wasnt by much wink.gif and his dads mustang could not keep up laugh.gif
It is about getting the "feel" of any car or truck.

Pirelli tires and some 5 spoke lightweight BBS rims turned the already somehat stiff suspention on my olds to a ground hugging mofo after I learned what it could and couldn't handle.

A leaf blower and some nawwwzz and I will have a true sleeper. biggrin.gif
glad to hear ur car had almost no damage and u learned something

btw someone correct me but in a ff car when going to the limit at a curve isnt that u dont have to accelerate or you will produce understeer? just doing when u r on the desired direction after the apex?

I wouldn't call you a ricer for doing something like that. I ain't no expert, but from what it sounds like, in the middle of your traction-loss, you counter-steered way too much. It lead to your car snapping back at you the other way around when your tires caught grip again. Similar situation happened to me once, but I was in an on-ramp going up in the rain with crappy tires. Luckily I didn't crash. Anywho, the fact that your car is FWD isn't the main issue. It's mostly about your tires. Give any car crappy tires, whether it be FWD, RWD, or AWD. Run the ramp at that speed and you'll be asking for disaster.

Edit: Forgot to mention this, driver experience also plays a major roll. No offense, but if you were a highly experience driver, you wouldn't have taken that turn @ that speed.

Also, I disagree with sinner96ST's statement about "they're always going to handle like ****, because they're FWD cars." A properly built FWD with a good driver can prove you wrong.

yeah, I'm pretty sure you are right about the countersteering. I'm pretty sure that if I had just let the gas off (but not pushed the brake) and not tried to steer at all, my car would have regained traction and I could have straightened out. that's what I think anyway. I played Forza for like an hour last night using only FF cars and I tried making them lose traction by taking corners real tight. if I countersteered, they jerked like my car did. if I didn't countersteer and keep on the gas, they just understeer and keep sliding sideways. but if I didn't countersteer, and released the throttle until they straightened out, then come back in on the throttle, they were able to take turns really well. so I think I can use this opportunity to improve my driving skills should something like this ever happen again.

I dunno if my tires are that crappy. they are BF goodrich tires, they're like V-rated all-season tires. cost me like $100 each and they're about six months old... I don't know much about tires so I don't know if they are crappy or not. I'm gonna get some really good ones when I get some new rims eventually.

properly built sure, i should have modified my statement to :

stock, mind you, if you pit any FWD car against any rear wheel, or all wheel drive car, you will lose. because of the design, they do not handle as well in extreme conditions as some of their other counterparts.

if you're talking about a built FWD platform, sure, you might be able to hang with the big boys. however, dump the same amount of money in to an awd/rwd car, and then we'll see which handles better at that point, and which can handle power better to the ground, which is a vital part of the handling of any car. you can't dump 300 horses in a FF car and expect great results in the straights or the twisties.

fwd isn't really known for it's prowess in handling. it's an economical design thought up by engineers who wanted to put all their eggs in one basket. you can put all the money in the world in to a FF car, and it still won't transfer weight evenly, won't handle as well, and won't be able to handle as much power as a rwd or awd car.

thumbsdown.gif So untrue. How would you explain ITR's and CTR's pwning RWD and AWD cars? I'm talking stock with equal driver experience on both sides. It's like saying a stock 240SX can beat an Integra Type R. laugh.gif Sorry but I just had to laugh.

Video game can't simulate all the different driving conditions we live on. I highly suggest you don't make any final conclusions on how a car will react based on a video game. While it may be true in some cases, in other cases it won't be.

Glad to hear you and your car are ok man. Not the brightest thing to do, but i think EVERYONE has had a scare at one point in their driving careers. But learn from it, and maybe do something to help prevent it in the future. Not to encourage more chasing of Evo's but more along the lines of, you never know when you might need to menuver out of the way of something, an accident, tire etc... Get better tires at the very least, make sure your brakes are well maintained. take it easy man smile.gif

obviously, but Forza has very realistic driving physics so I can at least deduce that it will at least be somewhat similar.

Eh...you can go with that. Best way to know is to put yourself in that same situation again but in a wide open space. Sometimes I go out with my Celica and try stupid stuff to learn how the car will react. Of course I do this with no one around for me to crash into. Although one time I decided to hit the e-brake in the middle of a 3-lane road. I ended up sliding left sideways, then sliding right slideways, then spinning out facing the opposite way almost hitting the median in the process. Good thing no one was around. biggrin.gif
