I have read many things about the MAF sensor and possible problems it can cause by not being there. "The MAF sensor is there to measure the volume of air drawn into the engine. It is used to determine the load on the engine. If the engine load isn't measured correctly, the car doesn't know how much fuel to inject, when to fire the cylinder or when to shift the transmission". (http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h34.pdf)

Honestly, it sounds rather necessary and I wouldn't risk not having it installed IMO.
truth. well, I gotta find a tool to cut the hole. what did you use? Also, did you have to put your celi on a jack and take the wheel off to take out the wheel well panel?
I didn't have a hole saw so i had to improvise. First I wrapped the pipe in electrical tape where I was drilling, just incase the drill bit decided to wander (helps prevement scratching). Then I used a small drill bit to start the hole (like 1/8" or less) and then moved up to a 3/8" bit, which was the largest I could track down in my house. After that, I had to use a reamer type of drill bit to get the hole up to 5/8" and then just kept working the hole in a circle until it was close to 3/4". Then, I slipped the grommet that came on the stock air box in the hole, stuck the MAF sensor in, and done.

I jacked up the car just to give me some more room to play and had it blocked and propped up on triangle stands (rather be safe than sorry).

I left the wheel on, I found I had plenty of room to work in there. I unbolted about half of the wheel well plastic and just pulled it down so I could work in there. It's maybe 6 screws and a bit of pulling to get it off the car. I didn't remove the whole piece, I just left it resting on the wheel.
My mom says she has a dremel. Would that be useful in this kind of situation? The only tools I'm used to using are screwdrivers, ratches, hammers, etc. Aka noob-tools.
You shouldn't need a hammer to do this so you can scratch that tongue.gif

Screwdriver and ratchet are necessary. The dremel tool probably will work for you. I'm not sure if it will work for drilling the hole, but once you have a hole, if you have a grinding/sanding attachment for it, you should be able to fix up the hole/make it bigger and any rough edges you make from cutting the pipe easily.

Make sure you have a 10mm metric socket. and a Phillips-head screwdriver (+). You can probably cut the pipe with the dremel as well, but i used a hacksaw.

as for the bypass valve...you probably wont need it, but its better to be safe than sorry, for example when you hydrolock and you have all those problems, your gonna wish youd spent the money for one.

x10 - take it from someone who's been there before. 4AM shooting water out my sparkplug holes and changing my oil on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Stupid tow truck driver mad.gif
That plus the almost no gain is why I'm sticking with SRI.

Out of curiosity, where would one get a bypass valve that would work on these accord intakes?
ebay.

search aem bypass valve. you need a 2.5".

Got mine installed. No MAF hole yet and no codes. When I get back to my place I'm gonna take the part that attaches to the throttle body out and drill it. Somehow while I had it jacked up though it raised the drivers side about an inch. So now when it's back on the ground it's just a little bit higher up on the drivers side. I dunno, but I'm too tired to try to figure it out tonight.

And I found no hippy, so I only got a couple of pictures.
I just had my new rims installed yesterday and I think while backing out of my friends drive way, the front driver side tire rubbed where the air filter was pressing on the wheel well plastic lining. It was too dark to take a look, so I'm going to have to check later. Damn bigger wheel diameter mad.gif

If it's rubbing, I may have to shrink mine to an SRI instead kindasad.gif (I also don't really notice a gain at all, just a different sound, and it looks damn cool under the hood tongue.gif

The tire is probably rubbing on your filter. Mine was doing that for a long time and still does it when i turn my wheels to the left. but a fairly good fix is to go to pepboys or an equal type of store and they have plastic 90 degree elbows in 3" diameter. I just attached one of those to the end of the pipe and then put my filter facing toward the front of the car. Like i said it works good, there is no rubbing except for when i turn my wheels that one direction.

I'll have to look into that. I'll take a better look at it either tonight or tomorrow (at work atm), but I'm pretty sure it did rub.
mine doesnt rub. but I didnt cut off the end of the s pipe. just 3 inches off the end of the L. my filter is pointed in diagnaly. it does seem to be a bit of a difference even over the sri. not a whole lot, but enough that I'm happy with it. just gotta get my bypass valve.
I didn't cut the pipe shorter on the S piece either, I cut it at the end where the filter connects and it still pushes out the wheel well liner. I tried to angle the filter slightly, but it doesn't have a lot of give to it and still rests against the plastic.
hmm... I wonder if mine doesnt do it just cause it's angled. Maybe one of those long but thin K&N filters would be your best bet. These filters are garbage anyway.

just for future refrence, the sensor in your intake piping is an Intake Air Temp sensor. (or IAT sensor for short)
our cars do not have a "Mass Airflow Sensor" the 3sgte does, commonly known as the AFM

Good to know.

Upon further investigation, I don't think my tire rubbed. I think I had a rock in my brakes and it made a groaning sound (at least that's all i can think it could be?)

I tested out my car maxing out my turning radius in both directions and had no problems.

I was gonna say that but I figured w/e - they'll figure it out eventually. laugh.gif
derp.

lol.

I'm still learning. This is my first project and I'd never done more than install an SRI before this car.

Yeah I got mine from eautosource.

Do they have a phone number?

i sent my payment and they confirmed it on may 6, i emailed them yesterday and they replied today with the DHL tracking no. i looked it up and i think its saying that its still in cali??? i guess i'll send them another email, but i would like to talk to someone over there.
Way yours sent through DHL? How long did it take to get to you, from the time you sent the payment?

Thank you, i dont know if it should be here or not (it should tho, right)
stock medium cai is the best
It took about two weeks or so to get here. It said it was taking forever then too.
Mine was shipped DHL from eautosource.

You get yours installed yet? (Turns out the rubbing i had was my passenger tire on the back side of the wheel well when the wheel is maxed and it's so minor it's hardly noticeable).
ebay is your best bet for gettin these intakes...35 shipped maybe?? i mean its really cheap..there no drilling holes for the maf and it works great..only thing you really have to do is cut the tube where the S bend is so that it will fit under the fuse box...noooo need to reloacte it what so ever..mine fit perfectly...mine also had the whole pre-drilled for the MAF....if anyone has any other questions or pictures just let me know and ill see what i can do...took me about 30 minutes to put it in

So isn't it kind of a pain to get the filter out and in to clean from that location?
so it took 2 weeks from the time you sent the payment...i guess i'll wait a few more days frown.gif
I sent him an angry message the day before I got it like "seriously, I havent heard from you at all. Please send me a tracking number."

the next day i went to check the tracking number from work and it had been delivered.

mine didnt have the air temp sensor hole predrilled. I still havent put it in even. Just got my bypass filter yesterday. Dont know if it's the right size though now that I look at it. Might be too small. I bought a 2.5" bypass valve for the 2.5" piping. Prolly shoulda gotten 2.75"

The intake has been installed and I didnt notice a big difference at first but I def do now. Also, those couplers they sent with the piping suck. Tighten em up till your hand hurts from trying to turn the screws, then do it some more. And check back on em for at least a week. It sounded wierd when I revved the other day so I popped my hood and the intake had come unattached from the manifold.

i havent had to clean it yet...these larger cone filters really dont need to be cleaned that often...maybe once every 2 months...thats when i do mine but it hasnt been 2 months since i installed it so i wouldnt really worry about it..but to answer your question..no its not that hard...jack it up a little and go under the car..shouldnt be too difficult
