It is finally time.... for boost! - 6G Celicas Forums

I'm beginning to think more and more that maybe this turbo needs re-sealed. I also still have an oil leak. I drove down my girlfriends driveway yesterday at like 5-ish mph and when I got out I saw an oil drop about every 2 feet. so it's a pretty decent leak. I'm beginning to think it's from the camshaft seal, crankshaft seal, or oil pump. all of which I believe would be a huge pain in the ass to change because you have to pull the timing belt off for any, and I know a timing belt is a pretty big job on it's own... I really don't know what other seals or gaskets there are on the engine that oil could be leaking from! it seems to leak from somewhere on the back of the eninge or the passenger side.

Seems like a lot of problems, you getting fed up with used turbos yet?

I'm getting fed up with celicas all together actually... but I think I'll keep this one around a while longer and see if i can get it running reliably. then probably buy a 240sx or MKIII supra later on. Anyway, the leak got worse today. pretty f-ing bad now. The good news (I think...) is that it's not leaking from over by the timing belt cover. At least a majority of it is dripping from that plate thing that bolts to the transmission that you have to remove in order to get to that half of the oil pan, and once it's removed you can see the flywheel. I'm not sure if it's leaking from the oil pan on that side, or if it's leaking from the tranny from under the flywheel, or if it's leaking from somwhere higher that is dripping into there and then out the other side. But, I know before I put the turbo on that after running alot my clutch would start slipping like crazy (new clutch, but it had been broken in properly) and I was told it was probably oil leaking onto my clutch. is there a way I can tell if the oil leaking out is oil or tranny fluid? besides checking my oil level cause I can't get to my dipstick cause my downpipe is in the way, and when I tried to get to it anyway I ended up breaking it...

from where you described it sounds like the rear main seal...

looks like you need to pull the tranny off and replace that seal asap.

stick your finger in and smell it...if it smells reallllly bad, its tranny fluid, which i doubt, like b-man said, sounds like a rear main seal.

yeah, I was thinking it was rear main seal too. *sigh* I've done almost 100% of all work and maintenance on this car, the only thing I really didn't do was the clutch/flywheel because I didn't think that removing the transmission was within my abilities. but that was 3/4 of a year ago, and this time, I really don't have a choice in the matter because I really don't have the money to pay somebody to do it. so I guess I'm about to learn how...

lol ya way to be positive.....

BANNED. for life, you moron.
haha. nope, no trannys fell on me. I haven't had much time to work on the car though. I've been working all day and going to school all night pulling like 12 and 14 hour days. it sucks. Any free time I have I'm way too tired to work on it so I basically haven't touched it since sunday. the tranny is almost out of the car, at this point, I could have it out in 5 minutes, just gotta pull the shift cables off the tranny (the clips are already out) and just lower the jack and the tranny *should* come down with it. then I gotta pull off the clutch and flywheel, but I don't have a clutch alignment tool to put them back on. one came with my clutch, but I gave it to my mechanic when I gave him the clutch to be installed and he didn't give it back... hopefully they aren't expensive or one of my friends might have one I could borrow.

anyway, after that, I gotta either pull the oil pan off (again) unbolt the retainer, take the seal out, replace it, put the retainer back in, but the oil pan back on, put the clutch and flywheel back on, put the tranny back in, and put everything else back in and should be good to go. that's the "recommended way", the not-so-recommended way is to ot take the oil pan off, and just pull the seal out with a screwdriver or something. I think I'll try that first and if it isn't super easy then I pull off the oil pan.

so, yeah, I plan on working it friday after school, saturday after work, and sunday before I see my girlfriend, and hopefully I can get it done in that amount of time (knowing me, it's unlikely)

it goes in the downpipe. The downpipe I got came with two openings for O2 sensors (the main and seconday) and I took my downpipe to 30 minute muffler and they welded on another bung so I had 3 so I could also plug in my wideband.

I went to both 30 minute and livermore muffler and they both said they can't weld on cast iron so they both recommended me to this blacksmith place on portola and they guy said he didn't know if he could weld it on or not.

btw, I ran my car with turbo for about 20 minutes without the second o2 sensor installed and I never even threw any CELs. the car did run smoother after I plugged it in though.
