MPG - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #52560 83 posts Started by frosty
I just got done testing my mpg thinking it might be crappy since I read the 5s-fe runs rich and plus with the car being 'round 12 years old, but I was joyfully surprised to see I'm running 29+mpg city. (with ac running sometimes and having a heavy foot)

Just something to make me love my car alittle more, since I expected 24-.

I'm curiouse though since I want to either add a turbo or swap to a 2nd gen 3sgte as to what my mpg would turn out to be.

Who on here with either a 5s-fte or a 3s-gte swap (or the very few who have a 5s-gte) checked your mpg?

Just really curious.

(even if you don't have one of these set-ups you can still post your mpg tongue.gif )

Best I've ever got was 27 mpg on average. On a 96 GT.

EDIT: Did the math wrong. 29 MPG and the most amount of miles i got on one tank was 423 miles 60% freeway 40% City

I fill up - drive like normal - and then when I fill up again I take the miles I went and divide it by how many gallons I just filled up with.

For instance.

The 20V has been getting me about 29MPG. Say I went 350 miles from my first fill-up. I get 12 gallons of gas. So Its 350 divided by 12 = 29.16666667

i dont have a turbo.

i get bad gas mileage.

keepin up with traffic = goin about 75+ on the freeway

only to hit stop n go traffic for two hours.

im currently at 250 miles on filling up with about 13 gallons.

Pandelica 2.0 in progress.
20 city (where I mostly drive)

27 mix of city and highway

never use AC unless I absolutly have to, make sure tire pressure and fluids are all good, and rarely am hard on accelerator/brakes. all in all, not the absolute best mpg in a little toyota. kindasad.gif

i got 465ish miles to my last tank of gas. so... idk what that is, like 29.8?

proud =3sgte SWAPPED= '95 Celica ST owner [calling it the GT2 or half-trac]309,000 miles n' ....dead-> ALIVE AGAIN!! ~14,000 miles driven
city driving with lots of boosting at 15psi = 19mpg
city driving with lots of boosting and AC = 15mpg (owned)
highway driving = never really checked, but i would guess about 25mpg if i just cruise
Boost = priceless

if you try to divide by our tank size, then you wont get a correct mpg. you have to divide by how many gal it took it you fill it back up to full.

about 22mpg on my turbo'd 5's

'bout how much psi do you run? (also is it more city or highway, or a mix)

I'm thinking that when I go turbo with either motor set-up that I'm probably gonna have a low psi for daily-driving and up it when I'm feelin kinda frisky.

i get aabout 20-21 in my 94 GT.. how do you guys get 30? What factors are involved with gas mileage (mechanics of the car etc) I mean is there something I could be doing to my car to get better mileage? I already have made a concious effort to not have a lead foot, not speed too much, but what else?

ahh i hate having low mileage

What kind of driving do you do? The more stops and starts you have to do the worse it get. Simple things too like tire pressure, how much extra weight you have in your car, ac running on high.... little things add up.

As far a weight on my car I have a cf hood which is MUCH lighter than the stock aluminum one, and my rims are lighter than the ones I had before. I try to keep junk out of my car too but that's also since I like a clean interior.

Motor wise, I just keep on top of fluid levels and make sure everything is running good. ( I also I started to add some fuel injector cleaner every other tank, under $1 if I remeber right) I use mobile 1 synthetic oil too.

These are the things I can think of that contribute to having good mpg.

i am just at 7.5 becasue its my daily driver, and yea, its a mix of highway and city, with lots of boosting wink.gif
stock 5sfe 99 GT w/ manual trans (odo. 95,000 mi.) 30-34 MPG

drive 50-65 mi. a day, some highway, some backroads

use to get 30-32 MPG using 89 octane and a bottle of gumout injector cleaner or full fuel system cleaner from time to time / then I tried a different brand of full fuel system cleaner 1 time about 2 months ago and now I consistently get 33-34 MPG on 89 octane

My Celi isFOR SALE
31 mpg or 3 weeks on full tank of gas with spirited driving. biggrin.gif
