Smoke Smell - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #54221 41 posts Started by BlackCelicaGT94
So i live at home and both my parents smoke indoors probably close to pack a day. I hate the smell and now I even am getting talked to at work about how I smell like smoke and my car does. My car is only 2 months old and has never been smoked in so I guess that tells you just how strong the smell is.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do? I cant tell my parents what to do because its their house. I cant move out at this moment in time. I may be able to this time next year.

So my only ideas are

To put my clothes in baggies in my closet
Fabreeze the crap outta them

I cant close my door so I cant keep the smoke smell out as much as id like.

Im so embarassed by this. I hate the smell too :-(

Air purifier in your closet & room.

A fan at your door, window cracked, i know this is gonna sound crazy but i had a friend who was in the same situation, he laid his shirts and pants flat after the wash between his matresses. He said that was as close as he could get his clothes not to smell like smoke and they'd be kinda ironed when he took them out.

Sorry, no animated sigs allowed.

I don't think that's going to help get the smell out of the house, unless theres a door to the outside from the room lol. Try the fans facing out an open window if you can, that's what I do when I smoke my hookah.

I was thinking of an air purifier. Do you think it will really help? Those things are pricey but probably worth it.

You could start catching your farts in your hand, and let it free in front of your parents nose. Then, if they tell you to stop, or go outside to fart, make them for a deal, that you both go outside the next time you HAVE TO fart/smoke.

Also, remember to record -> youtube.
I would just sit down with my parents and tell them that I have been spoken to at work about the cigarette smell that is on my clothes and ask them if they must smoke in the house, if they can do it in their own room or outside.

I understand that your financial situation has you stuck at home, but that is what I would do.

They do smoke primarily in one room. Its the room farthest from my room. I rarely am out visiting them in that room so its not like its my fault for hanging around them. I asked them if they could try limit it and they were open to trying it.

My work is going to buy me an air purifier for my closet.

You could febreeze your car down and just keep your clothes in your car.

I know when my Mom smokes, she'll do it outside. I know when my Aunt & Uncle did they went outside as well. Your parents have to realize that they too smell. Stale cigarrette smoke is the nastiest smell.

I dont know if anyone answered to this or not, but my best friend's parents are like MAJOR chain smokers... Like I couldn't stand to be in my best friend's house because it was just horrible...
But one day they got one of those air purifiers and holy hell did that make a difference... It doesnt even smell like smoke anymore in the living room where its at. I'd say its a good investment.

Invest in filters! Go to Sams Club or something and buy the über-pack of filters for the purifier!

if you really wanna get rid of the smell in your car.... Ozone emiters can remove smokey smells really well. (so ive heard, id have to double check) but supposidly the Ozone that these machine emit reacts with odors and neutralize them. Only downside is your car will smell like a lightning storm just came through, untill you air it out. (that semi gross smell is Ozone, its created from the oxygen in the air that reacts when lightning goes from the clouds to the ground.)

I cant close my door because I have a rabbit htat is potty trained so the rabbit has its litter box in my room (by the way it gets cleaned every 2 days so its not as gross as it would sound) so my parents have a rule that the bunny needs to be able to come and go from the room as he pleases.

I will look at ozone emitters for my car. Thanks

^dont buy one yet...let me double check to make sure that i have all MY facts straight b4 you go out looking. could just end up being a waste of time...or worse...money

KawiLove
Couldn't you just keep your rabbit in your room and shut the door?

-Brian
No i cant keep the rabbit in the room with the door shut. my parents think that would be cruel. hes not really my rabbit. he had that room to himself then i was like i want the bigger room and the deal was that the rabbit would be my "roommate" and id have to leave the door open.

Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City
I'd think its acutally better for the rabbit to be breathing cleaner air so i dont see how it would be cruel. it wouldnt have to be all day even, maybe just when your at work or when your home from work it's not like it would be a jail cell for your rabbit.
the more you can seperate your stuff from the smoke smell the better, and that requires a door between you and the smoke that is shut

-Brian
Non-Smoke I'm unfortunately one of the ones who smokes in my house. I smoke every once and a while in my Celi. And this stuff really works. Gets rid of the smell in like 10 seconds. Really useful and not that expensive either.

Ozone emitters work really well, actually to well though O3 oxidizes just about anything including you so use it with caution. also it is detectably noxious @ 0.1 to 1 ppm and will give you headaches and such so you might check to be sure it is safe to have in your car(enclosed area). i know they have them for rooms

Update - my work bought me one and it did the trick for a few days but i still can smell it a bit. :-(

Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City
I've heard that there's a product out called Ozium - it's a spray can air freshener that has that ozone stuff in it and is supposed to work EXTREMELY well. (Hotels use it I'm told) I wouldn't use it around the bunny, although it can't be any worse than the second hand smoke it's inhaling, but try using it in your car to help some. I was gonna also recommend one of those Ionic air purifiers, I think they're supposed to work extremely well. But it sounds like you've got that covered.

Unfortunately the smell will never come out completely. I quit smoking on October 22nd this year (I'm still weening from the patch) and now that I've quit, I can REALLY smell it like on jackets and stuff. (I never smoked in my house, but minimally in the car) Ya gotta wash EVERYTHING. Maybe get inexpensive garment bags to hang your clothes in?
