Inspired by Randy's recent purchase and my obsessive searching for the perfect TV, I am curious with what other people are thinking about treating themselves with.

I have basically narrowed down weeks of research into HDTV with a choice of the Samsung 40'' LCD 1080p HDTV with the addition of the Oppo DV-981HD 1080p upscaling DVD player. I don't feel comfortable purchasing an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player just yet as who knows when this war will end so this upscaler is the best on the market and should hold me over. Shame I won't have it before tomorrow afternoon but it's exciting!

Since we bought a Civic Hybrid this year, we will get a very nice tax break this year. I plan to use some of the cash to support the Webcam camshaft upgrade that Dustin did...that will probably eat up about 1 grand. Other than that, probably just save the rest or do some more smaller mods to the Celica. Wife will have discretion over it too lol.

If your still wondering who is gonna win the HD war, I think it will be BluRay.

BluRay has been outselling HD-Dvd 6:1 and Universal, Paramount, and Warner Brothers have all decided to drop HD-Dvd and support BluRay instead.

Blu-ray is going to be on top. Many years ago with Betta Max and VHS, Betta Max was much better quality. Guess who was behind VHS? Sony. They made deals with everyone and put Betta Max out of business. I can see the same thing happening with Blu-Ray. Sony is behind it again, also the familiar name "Blu" as in "Blue Tooth. Anyways, it is going to be Blu-ray.

SS, don't purchase an "upconverting" dvd player. Biggest scam ever. Why? Because your tv already upconverts the video signal. What model samsung were ya looking at?

Gonna buy a new LCD tv also, something in the 32" to 40" range. Currently reading reviews on those samsungs.

everytime I window ship TV's I pick out the samsungs as my fav before I look at the brands. Definitely the way to go imo

I think I've decided against it. I've also decided on a different Tv...sorta. If I had a bigger car today I would have brought home a 40'' 1080p Plasma and an blu-ray player, but didn't.

I really wish all movies were available on both formats because I'd just go buy one but Transformers is HD DVD only - and stuff.

So I took the dive today. Ordered a 42'' 1080p Panasonic plasma. Now I'm just waiting to exercise some hook up options on a PS3 and then going to get my HD box and I will a happy camper.

Personally i dont got the 1080P, I just got the regular, Plus it's a big screen Short Tube, But it's 65 inches of GLORY!! When i first hooked up the x-box for a bit of Spider man 2, WHOLEY SHIZNIT!! i had to sit 3 inches from the screen, with my suround sound, I swear that I was the one shooting that web

Everything will be hooked up via HDMI, that is except for sound. I'm going to try to do that optical but I have a feeling it's not going to work out. I have an old receiver.

Dude; If it's an issue of your cable box... Call the company and request a new box. Most cable companys (Comcast, mine included) charge you a few bucks (3-5 usualy) for service to a high def reciever. For a buck or two more you can upgrade you reciever to something with the 'optical in.'

IMO It is WELL worth a buck or two.

My best hommy has optical 9.3 surround. lol. Yes he has 2 - 12's in a banpass box on a 1200W car amp wired to a AC to DC converter lol. It's Wired into his surround sound set. It's Freakin Sweet...

Myself; I've got optical out on everything, But optical in on nothing WTF!?

I understand about the drywall holding your TV; But the screws go into studs, And the center frame is supposed to be mounted onto a Wall support beam. (supposed) my bro-in-law has a 45inch mounted on his wall (not into the support beam) and it's been holding for over a year now.

But drywall is not exacaly sturdy stuff, I wouldnt wanna set my investment on the side of a cliff and hope the wind dont blow LOL!!

I've seen walmart, and a few others (ikea, Gallary Furniture, Flea markets, Ect.) With rather nice (And pretty cheap) setups for the Flat Plasma's. I especialy like the glass one's because IMO they look so freakin cool. Come's with the mounts already ready already, Plus a few shelfs for VCR's (If you still own VHS's) or DVD players, playstations, Ect. At Wal*Mart for as low as 35+ dollars.

Now ya just can't beat that deal even if it banged your sister and you had a tire iron

No, I'm talking audio receiver - with book shelf and surround sound speakers. It doesn't have the ability to decode HD sound.

For $35 you'll get a piece of garbage. It's more expensive for something that will hold a plasma.
